Minutes pass; he lights another cigarette, and his monocle starts to ice over. He sighs as he adjusts the eyeglass before it freezes to his face. Sentimentality has its price. He had thought he knew that by now.

“No, you want to uncover a trick, some magic formula that Alice and Wonderlanded me to where I am today. But I am sorry to say my position was acquired solely through hard work. I was Fish Mooney’s umbrella boy. You know what I was doing when I overheard the information that allowed me to wager my way out?”
“What were you doing?” Edward asks. He’s rapt, incandescent. Eyes glistening, like this was what he was hungry for all along. Another one of Oswald’s attempts to turn him down only drawing him in further.
“I was giving her a foot rub. Down on my knees,” he says, lifting his chin in the pantomime of triumph. Edward has a way of doing that—mangling Oswald’s would-be mic drops by refusing to act the way a normal man would act.

Summary
As much as he missed the taste of fine wine and wagyu beef, he had to admit that he'd come to love these dinners. At this point, he couldn't even look at canned fruit without heat threatening to flood his cheeks.
It was just the proximity, the ambiance from the lit candles. The atmosphere put him in a dreadfully romantic headspace and occasionally it made him forget himself.
For example, the first thought he had when he sat across the table from Ed — wine glasses filled with purified water and expensive cutlery stolen from Aubrey James' residence — was that the yellow glow made him look terribly attractive.

Summary
Ed had always had a problem with personal space.
He never really noticed it. He assumed that if he did then he wouldn't have the problem in the first place, but alas he didn't, so it wasn't exactly a rare occurrence when people backed up from him or asked him to step away. Comments like 'why are you breathing down my neck?' or 'could you move, Ed?' were commonplace enough to not even cause offense.
That is to say, he wasn't all that surprised when, upon first meeting the Penguin, the mobster told him that he was standing too close.
____Ed and Oswald figure out how to casually, and not-so-casually touch another person.

Summary
Ed lathered enough soap onto his body to completely cover the sweat, grime, and dirtied water. By the time he was done, he almost felt like himself again.
Almost. He still was no closer to figuring out what his other half was doing.
Without warning, the shower curtain was ripped back. Ed screamed and flailed and knocked his elbow into the back wall as a gun was waved in his face. It lowered a second later and he was able to see who'd interrupted him.
"Lee! What are you doing!?""I should ask you the same thing! You don't show up for a week and a half and the first – is that a hickey?"
The non-sequitur stopped him short.
"...What?"
____Ed's at odds with his reflection once again, but now he's losing time. He has to figure out what his other self is getting up to in the week-long gaps of memory while trying to hold onto the life he's made in the Narrows. The problem is, his other half seems to want to tear that life apart, and seems convinced that by doing so he's actually helping Ed get what, and who, he actually wants
