“Why are we doing this?” Dream sighs, because there’s no way he can keep sitting here in the back of his old friend's car, acting as if everything’s okay. It’s awkward. Incredibly so.
Silence fills the whole car. He thought maybe nobody had heard him or maybe they did but they just didn’t want to answer. In all fairness, he can’t really blame them. He wouldn’t want to answer either.

Summary
George finally made his move, bringing the knife that Dream had known that he had at his fingertips this whole time up and aiming for Dream’s chest. Dream, reacting almost immediately since he had known this was coming, grabbed his wrist and forced his swing to go wide. He bent his wrist away from him, but not enough to risk breaking it. “Who do you work for?” Dream asked, managing to keep his voice remarkably casual given the position they were in. Good. It had been awhile; nice to see that he hadn’t lost his touch.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” George tried to wiggle his wrist out of Dream’s grasp but he just tightened his fingers, feeling the delicate bones of the hunter’s wrist moving under his skin. He had been right; George was clearly experienced but when it came down to it, he just didn’t have the strength to take Dream down.

Dream's a vampire living a mostly peaceful life in Virginia until he messes up, gets caught, and ends up with a vampire hunter on his tail. George is an infamous vampire hunter but gets thrown off when he accidentally ends up sort of friends with the person he's supposed to be killing.

The visa is approved, the tickets are booked, and yet when George lands in Florida, he's grief-stricken and awaiting a funeral instead of hugging his best friend.
So he deals with grief and slowly — with his best friends' help — he finds himself becoming more patient with the birth of sudden goodbyes.
