Summary
“Wylan’s hungry again.” Jesper began, trailing off almost immediately as Kaz looked up from the book he’d read a thousand times, eyes narrowed. “Is there…anything you can think of?”
Kaz Brekker had an unbreakable habit, that he kept picking up strays and building them up. He’d done it decades ago with Jesper and now he was doing it again with Wylan.
“If he won’t eat, he won’t eat.” Kaz knew Jesper wouldn’t like his solution, holding Wylan down and forcing blood down his throat. Jesper would never have Wylan the same way he did now ever again. He’d eat but he’d become vengeful, he’d become betrayed.

“So, the doll…” Wylan followed the two of them from a distance, he’d left the doll inside today, but he’d brought it around all of yesterday after Jesper dropped it off. A little doll with button eyes, the spitting image of Wylan, a tiny him. “Were you the one who made it?”
“What? Nah, I found it that way.” Jesper didn’t turn to look at Wylan, instead keeping his head close to the ground, eagerly clicking the tongs he used specifically to scoop slugs. “It’s older than my grandma, than this house. I guess.”

“Jesper, why didn’t you wake me up?” Wylan whisper-screamed, because his father didn’t go to work until 9am and he had punished Wylan for things smaller than talking to himself.
“I am literally dead.” Jesper, the ghost who had been hanging out with Wylan for two and half years, hung upside down above him casually. To Jesper’s credit he couldn't do much of anything, he could float, he could talk, and if he tried really hard he could knock over a styrofoam cup.
