Summary
A week ago, Dean was pulled out of Hell. Now, he’s apparently woken up in 2018, and the angel that a mere twenty-four hours beforehand had threatened to chuck him back into the pit is sleepily pouring himself coffee and wearing Dean’s second-favourite Zeppelin shirt. It all seems like a perfect happy ending, but with Hell’s scars still so fresh, Dean can’t imagine how he could have possibly gotten there.
At the same time, the Dean who went to sleep in the bunker, right next to Cas, wakes up on Bobby’s couch in 2008. He’s instantly bombarded with questions by a Lilith-obsessed brother and a man who’s been dead for years, and must decide between keeping his finally-perfect life intact, and the lives he could save by re-writing history.
Regardless of these choices, both Deans are trapped in the wrong decade, and their only way back lies with a Castiel still very much under Heaven’s thumb – one who might find the future Dean describes difficult to believe.

Cas comes back. It's not exactly the reunion that Dean is expecting.

Dean stares at him, flummoxed. Cas quite literally poured his heart out to Dean, gave a truly sappy and distressingly romantic speech and everything, then proceeded to give his life so that Dean could live his. And he wants to act like he doesn't want to see Dean, be around him, touch him?
Actually, Dean's ninety-nine percent sure that Cas probably wants to fuck him, and while he has no clue how he feels about that, he's pretty goddamn sure that means Cas doesn't get to act like this and make it authentic.
It feels strangely real, though, as if Cas wants nothing more than to get as far away from him as possible. This is a blatant contradiction. Even someone as weird as Cas doesn't want to get away from the person they have the desire to fuck five ways to Sunday, that they're in love with. That's not how these things work, so Dean isn't buying it.

Or, the romantic comedy where Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle are destined to get married, Castiel is given the task of playing matchmaker and fails terribly, the entire Heavenly Host becomes a sitcom audience, God warns against male pregnancy, and Jimmy Novak is incredibly unimpressed with angels in general.

Cas stares at him, searching his face. After a moment, his own face falls slack, eyes widening just so. "Oh," he breathes out.
Dean wants to be furious that Cas has figured it out before he has—whatever it is—but he's not even that surprised. Cas knows him too well, always has, even more than Dean knows himself. He's been kicking Dean in the goddamn teeth with how deeply he understands him, even about the things Dean doesn't, ever since they first met. You don't think you deserve to be saved, that's what Cas had said. All bundled up in impossibilities and power, this being that looked at Dean Winchester and knew every single inch of him, as if he had a right to each part.
"What?" Dean grits out.
"I love you, too."

this is one of the most quality pieces of writing i have EVER consumed. the idea was so interesting and the execution of it was absolutely flawless.
every sentence was written with purpose and was so meaningful and so many nuances of destiel’s so freaking complicated relationship was handled so well. like every single one omg. it’s like all the itches in my brain got scratched and like EVERYTHING was carefully crafted in this beautiful fic.
the length and pacing of this was perfect and it progressed in such a realistic way, like i was never not waiting for too long and there was so much happening at the same time. idk. the plot and lore was literally spn accurate, and so well written. hello? this would have been season 16 if author was a writer for the show. anyway, the plot was SO interesting and had me hooked and i love how accurate it felt to the actual show, all the lore, everything made perfect sense. the way author writes is so AGHH, it’s so freaking high quality and immersive. it’s such an well rounded fic and had no boxes unmarked. author i just appreciate your style of writing so much.
ok i am such a sucker for hella angst and misunderstandings and this fic literally has the OPTIMAL amount of both and it was so darn MESSY and so freaking GOOD. and the progression towards destiel’s resolution at the end was such a reward and i ate all of that up, i loved every second of it.
finally, the characterisation alone has the cake for me. sam, dean and cas’ perspectives are so rich and exploring their characters was so right and meaningful i could actually dance. especially dean, love the handling of his character, it was so thorough and everything felt so complete. amazing.
