“Why don’t you fight with me anymore?” Kaoru blurts out. Kojiro startles at the sudden question. It’s after a long pause that he answers, and Kaoru can see in the furrow in his brows that he’s thinking carefully about the words that come out of his mouth.
“Do you… want me to? Fight with you?”
“Yes. No. I don’t know.” Kaoru exhales in frustration. “Just…” Kaoru trails off.
“Kaoru?” Kojiro prods when Kaoru remains silent. “Is everything oka—”
“Why don’t you fight with me anymore?” Kaoru repeats. “Have I gotten too boring for you, too, now?”

“You got dumped?” Kaoru starts, gaping at his friend. He’s sitting next to him now, both of their umbrellas opened out to protect their feet from the ongoing rain.
Kojiro says nothing. Eyes looking off into space, he nods, still ghost-like even after he broke down earlier in Kaoru’s arms.
“Why?” Kaoru asks, shrugging. “You were like the perfect boyfriend!”

Kaoru looks at the floor and Kojiro could swear there was a tinge of red on his pale cheeks, but it must’ve been a trick of the light.
“There is no point wrapping it just to get it wet in the shower and then having to wrap it again.”
“Ok, that’s fair,” Kojiro concedes. “Why didn’t you shower already, in that case?”
“I can’t wash my hair”5 times Kojiro washed Kaoru's hair + 1 time Kaoru repaid the favor.

Summary
For a long while, he blinked, watching their hands still linked together, Kojiro’s thumb ghosting over the back of his. “I’m not that special,” he finally said. “I’m the one who everyone leaves behind. Entertaining for a while, but it doesn’t last.”
“I’m still here…I’m not going anywhere.”
“You already did.” Kaoru raised his chin, head tilting back, hair falling over his shoulders. “You went to study in Italy, remember?”
“I–”
“Who's got the bad memory now?” He tried for a tight-lipped smirk, but it faded too soon. His vision lingered, unseeing, on the low table’s glossy surface.
Lightning flashed. The sky swirled outside, like the first seasick trappings of grief and missed chances, how it did the night before he boarded that flight, not knowing if he’d see Kaoru again or if they’d grow apart. He’d left the country with a hole in his chest.
Slowly but surely, Kaoru has been recovering from the grave injuries received in his race against Adam. Still, something isn't right. Kojiro knows it. Determined to help in any way he can, nostalgia for bygone days and an increase in quality time makes hiding his affections much harder.

Likewise, Leorio decides it’s a great idea to respond and hold a conversation with a stranger he’s kinda afraid of, and an even greater one to try to charm them. Walls are slowly torn down and for once, Kurapika allows himself to feel the warmth on the other side.
