He lifts a shaking hand to fire his pistol, just so he can say he went down swinging.

"The blood was spilling out of him far too fast. His hands couldn’t contain it all. Noctis’s life was leaking out onto the concrete beneath him. Gladio felt bitter tears gathering in his eyes. Why couldn’t that dumb ass just stay close to him?
The blood was dripping faster, forming a pool of red underneath Noctis’s prone body. He looked so pale and his face was calm, tilted up towards the night sky. Too calm."

Summary
The first time he summons Ramuh, it’s barely on purpose.
He doesn’t notice the raw power inside him growing at first, somehow foreign and familiar at the same time. It starts from his very core, bubbling outwards until it almost hurts, and before he’s able to comprehend what’s about to happen, the sky splits open.
Static fills the air, the deafening roar of thunder temporarily drowns out any and all battle noises, and a giant hand descends from the sky and plucks Noct straight off the ground.

How many?" he asks even as he whirls around to face the copse, knowing his Shield easily has the last voretooth with them.
Gladio's tone sounds even more grim now, somehow. "Too many to count."
It was supposed to be a simple hunt. Go to Cauthess, find the pack of voretooth, and kill them. Easy money, right? Unfortunately it takes only a moment for things to go wrong, and Noct and Gladio soon learn that the hard way.

After a daemon attack leaves Prompto, Ignis and Gladio severely wounded and on the verge of death, Noctis has to fight exhaustion and injuries of his own in a bid to save their lives.
