Summary
“The next time an enemy ambushes us, I’m going to leave you out in the open and let them slice your head off to use it as decoration.”
“Would you, though?” Yun snickered. “What happened to your theatric act of promising to live so long as I’m alive?”
// Or, a fic where apparently, there's a little diner somewhere in Anwei, and Elias is so close to shoving all of the meals they have to offer down Yun's throat. In a non-hostile way, if that's even possible.

Summary
“I suppose I should remind you I don’t play with guns,” Elias argued, letting go of his arm to let Yun wrap it up in hopes of temporarily stopping the blood flow. “And another thing—I could easily slice that bullet in half if a certain someone hadn't confiscated my sword.”
// Or, a fic where Yun has to deal with a bleeding Elias for the first time, and somewhere along with the banter and the half-hearted threats, a promise is made.

Summary
In the midst of the frantic, rhythmic motion, a small shift in the air, pulled Will from the blinding focus of sensation. His head lolled back against the pillows, his eyes, hazy and dilated, snapping open.
That’s when he saw her. Vanessa. Standing in the sliver of the doorway.
He didn't gasp. He didn't stop Mike, didn't even slow the relentless, punishing rhythm. There was no room for surprise, not now, not after all this time. He just stared at her with the quiet, triumphant knowledge that had settled deep within him years ago. It was a look of profound, quiet acknowledgement—a confirmation of the ending he had always known was their inevitable destination.
In that gaze, Will was telling her that her story with Mike was over, that he had merely held the place for him until the time was right.
The problem with Mike Wheeler was not that he didn't know how to exist in halves, but that he refused to let Will Byers exist without him. In 1991, Will Byers is an art student at NYU, living for the 10:00 PM calls and the thick, ink-stained manuscripts Mike sends from Bloomington. He has resigned himself to being the moon to Mike’s sun.

Mike pushes into his hands, but Will keeps him still.
"Ask again," he says. Because he's greedy, and he wants Mike to want him.
He stares at Will's mouth. "Please."
"Again."
El is gone.
Will tries to figure out how to move on in New York, and Mike follows him. Their apartment is haunted not by ghosts, but by the two of them.
Or: Catastrophically traumatized boys cling to each other and accidentally figure out how to be close—too close—while moving through their grief.

Mike's fingertips smooth through Will's hair, and his eyelids almost flutter shut in response, but he keeps them open so that he can watch Mike watch him.
"I can't believe it took me this long," Mike says.
Yeah, that's the main difference this time—Will doesn't harbor that bloodless, dead thing in his chest anymore. Now there's a beating heart, and he puts it in Mike's hands.

Summary
"Carlton," Mike repeated, the word feeling like ash in his mouth.
"Yeah, Carlton," Dustin said, sounding genuinely surprised by Mike's tone. "I figured you’d be the first to know. I mean, you guys talk every night. I only heard it through the grapevine—Max told Lucas, Lucas told me. Even El seemed to know when I called her last. I thought you were probably the one who gave him the pep talk to actually go through with it."
Mike didn’t know. He didn't know anything. He’d talked to Will on Friday. He’d talked to Will today, just before calling Dustin. Will had mentioned the weather, his latest charcoal sketch, and the fact that Max had accidentally bleached one of his favorite sweaters. He had not mentioned a business major named Carlton.
The betrayal tasted like copper. He was the person Will usually told everything to first.
OR Mike Wheeler realizes that playing the "Good Best Friend" is a losing game, Will is tired of waiting for a sign, and the Party proves that they are world-class at covering up a tactical romantic explosion.
Basically: cheating Byler burger with a side of mutual pining fries and enabler friends soda.

Summary
Robin showed up at her door on a Thursday afternoon, no warning, and said, "Want to walk?" Nancy grabbed her jacket without answering because the alternative was sitting in the living room while her mother and Joyce Byers made small talk and pretended everyone was fine, and Nancy would rather freeze to death than do that for another hour.
OR: Hawkins fall 1986. Nancy breaks up with Jonathan, Robin wears an insufficient denim jacket through a supernatural winter, and they both pretend they're just friends right up until they're not.

Her right hand was still warm where Robin had held it. The left was freezing.
Nancy pressed them together and tried to even it out, tried to make the warmth spread. It didn't work. It never worked.
She fell asleep like that, hands clasped like a prayer.
