All of the dirty things Ratio had rehearsed in his mind with those faceless marble statues pale in comparison to hot, vivacious flesh.
Dr. Ratio has long admired depictions of the human form — the way flesh pulls taut over muscle in gorgeous, mathematical symmetry; how light catches the enchanting curves of a shoulder. But marble limbs do not tremble under the warmth of touch. Carved lips do not crash against his own and pull him closer.
Aventurine does. All of that, and so much more.

Bonifaceaux frowns, holding onto Mercure's arm while they walk. He always walks a little too fast for them and their aching back, but tonight he's dragging his feet. "They're not... Mercure, you should refuse. They are important cultural markings. They are cradles of history, our loved ones, our ancestors..."
"I'm not playing a Retrouvaille on stage, is the thing," Mercure quickly cuts in. "I'm playing a pirate. A non-denominational evil pirate."
"Well, your evil pirate can still be a Duskwight," Bonifaceaux retorts.
Bonifaceaux and Mercure were the best of friends.

Holed up in the Creation Laboratory, Ratio carefully adjusted the synthetic wiring of an android brain. A delicate tool was held between his thumb and index, moving bronze wires around, the computer in front of him displaying the internal structure.
Hands settled on his shoulders — he flinched, careful not to mess with the project, whipping his head around to snap at whoever dared interrupt him in such a manner.
The words got stuck in his throat; his boyfriend grinned at him, the glow of his eyes unsettling.
Down in the depths of the earth, humanity had managed to endure the apocalypse – with all of its ugliness, all of its cruelty, and some of its beauty.

“Ratio?” he asks, stepping a bit closer. “It’s me, Aventurine. Are you… do you want to go home?”
At the mention of his name, Ratio stills, a light startle in his step as he turns to face Aventurine. He drops his hands, lacing them back together in front of him. He looks dazed, normal intensity lost from his eyes as they open glassy and vacant. They flex wide with recognition, but he doesn’t say anything.
Ratio goes quiet, and Aventurine doesn't know what to do.

“You might want to review your contract,” Aventurine said, with an easy smugness that evoked pure Schadenfreude. “Funny little thing called a spontaneous travel contingency clause. Up to 80 hours of on-site consulting—paid, of course—if the asset liquidation specialist deems it economically valuable.”
When the IPC’s newest Stoneheart drags Ratio along on a debt case seemingly for no reason other than his own amusement, Ratio wastes no time adding Aventurine to the list of people he’d strangle if it wouldn’t jeopardize his career. Upon their arrival on Xin-41, however, Ratio begrudgingly deems his contempt for the planet’s intellectual oligarchy stronger than his contempt for his insufferable colleague. Even more begrudgingly, he finds himself drawn in by the web of mysteries lurking not just within the Slinkans’ ivory tower, but within the depths of Aventurine’s dangerously inscrutable mind.
Through deadly equations, volatile spices, and the ‘warning’ of a brutalized corpse left out under the summer sun, Xin-41’s insolvency reveals itself as something deeply sinister, with threads tying back to the early days of the IPC... and to one of the Intelligentsia Guild’s most infamous scholars.

Summary
Dr. Ratio and Aventurine are sent on a mission to Epsilon in which they visit a black market, only for Ratio to get hit with some sort of drug by a shop vendor he angered. Unsure of what to do, Aventurine attempts to ensure both of their safeties while dealing with the unwanted effects of what he will soon find to be a very potent aphrodisiac.
Or
Aventurine has to deal with Ratio being in pain, feeling absolutely miserable and begging for Aventurine to fuck him. Fortunately, Aventurine, who knows that Ratio would never act like this if he was sober, is attempting to figure out how the hell to deal with all of this without crossing the others boundaries, resulting in an interesting time for the both of them.
