Summary
They both know this is it. That beyond this barren landscape, whatever they found here will cease to exist.
It was born here and it’ll die here, and Eddie will spend the rest of his life missing it, but he’s not allowed to take it with him. They have to bury it - dig six feet down and submerge it in the sun-scorched earth so she can remember it for them. So she can cradle it and keep it safe, where no one can ever touch it. Where no one can ever taint it.
(Buck and Eddie meet in Afghanistan. It changes everything.)

Summary
There's an itch between his shoulder blades when Buck talks about Tommy, when Buck asks Eddie if he wants to join the two of them for a drink after work, when Buck smiles at a text message and Eddie knows it's from Tommy. His stomach had been twisted in knots for half of Maddie and Chim's wedding, watching the two of them.
There's only one awful, inevitable conclusion: Eddie isn't actually as comfortable with Buck's coming out as he thought he was. Which is, frankly, unacceptable.

Summary
“The good news is, none of the substances any of you were exposed to were particularly dangerous. They were mostly trying to make psychedelic drugs in that little kitchen lab of theirs. That’s why they were growing mushrooms,” said Athena.
“Mostly?” asked Eddie.
“That’s the bad news. They were also trying to formulate an…aphrodisiac.”
When Eddie gets exposed to an experimental aphrodisiac on a call, he realizes there’s only one person he trusts to help him get through it: Buck.

Summary
They don’t plan their own bachelor party.
It goes more like this: there’s a knock on the door. Chim bullies them both into his car and Bobby hustles Christopher into his, promising to drop their son off tomorrow afternoon. They’re driven across town, to some stylish pop-up bar that Maddie rented out for the night. They’re ordered inside, marched like prisoners.
(Eddie marries the love of his life. It's been a long time coming.)

Summary
Eddie loves the bond that Buck and Christopher have, the little traditions and customs they share, even if he doesn’t always understand them.
But he forgets that there’s the person who taught these things to Buck in the first place, so that he could pass them on to Christopher.
And as he starts paying closer attention, Eddie finds himself immensely grateful to Maddie, and he may just find it changes the way he looks at his best friend.Set mid-season three into an alternately timed, pandemic-less season four.
A 5+1 (but the five is in 2 parts because it got too long).

“It’s just that—I died,” Buck continues, voice unsteady enough that Eddie wonders if this is the first time he’s acknowledged that out loud. “I died, and there’s so much more. There’s so much more I want to do, things I don’t even know I want to do yet, and I almost had the chance to have and live them taken away. I don’t want to die and regret missing out on everything else, Eddie.”
“So let’s make a list,” Eddie says. “Let’s do them.”
or, a bucket list that’s really about buck needing to make a change and an eddie who’s ready to do anything to see him fall in love with life again. it takes some crossing off for eddie to realise—the thing at the top of the list in his own heart? it’s been right here all along

“You two are already attached at the hip,” Hen comments, trying to make light of the situation.
“Well, we’re not attached at the hip in the way I want,” Eddie says without any control and snaps his mouth shut with horror.
All of the sudden, Eddie finds the ceiling of the ambulance very interesting. Focus on it on the silence that follows.
“You could blame it on the head injury,” Chim offers.

Eddie has a concussion. Suddenly he can't lie.
It would be fine if he wasn't trying his best to not confess his undying love for Buck. -

“How are we gonna practice dating if we can't even take the first step?”
Three hours later, when he was lying in bed staring up at the ceiling, Eddie would not be able to pinpoint with any certainty what possessed him to say what he said next. All he knew was that at the time, it seemed like the perfect answer, the obvious solution.
“We practice on each other.”

“Don’t you want to get back out there, though?” Buck asked. “I mean, you kept asking about my couch, but what about you?”
“I’ve had a couch this whole time,” Eddie countered.
“A metaphorical couch.”
“The hell is a metaphorical couch?” Chimney asked Hen and Ravi under his breath, earning only a shrug and raised eyebrows in response.

Summary
When Eddie wakes, it’s to Buck’s arm slung across his chest, Buck’s ankle hooked over his, and Buck’s erection pressing into his hip.
Two out of three of those aren’t unusual.
It’s six weeks since the lightning. Five weeks and two days since Buck woke up. Four weeks and three days since he was released from hospital. Four weeks exactly since he came home, came to stay at the Diaz house while he recuperates, like he should have from the start.
It’s been three weeks and four days since they started sharing the bed.
or: Buck hasn't gotten off since the lightning strike. Eddie watches him do something about it.

Summary
Margaret and Phillip spent years not seeing their children and then slowly got back into contact with them until this point, where they think they’re in a pretty decent place, actually.
Except then Buck gets injured and, as his hospital room fills with evidence of a life they know absolutely nothing about and they meet and hear about people they’ve never heard of (including a child?!), they realise that perhaps it was all simply too little, too late after all.

“Really, Eds? Me giving a sub-par lesson to your kid does it for you?” Buck snorts, raising an eyebrow in sheer amusement when Eddie merely mirrors his position, leaning in close so that their knees pressed up against each other.
“Our kid. And by the way Chris was smiling, I doubt it was sub-par. You’ve just – always been here. With us. You’ve always been right here,” Eddie’s original teasing smile turns tender, the edges of his lips softening into a look that Buck has seen directed at people he loved many a time.
“Eddie.”
“Point is, I just really love you,” Eddie’s eyes shine with a myriad of emotions when their gazes meet again, and Buck inhales sharply.
Or, Buck slingshots mac and cheese, becomes a pillow, teaches physics, misses brunch, and drowns in love through it all

Summary
Buck is all in. He’s one-hundred percent, give em everything he’s got, will do anything Maddie asks—
“You can’t tell anyone,” Maddie suddenly becomes so serious Buck feels like he has whiplash.
He blinks a few times, brow furrowed, “Well, yeah I know that.”
“No, Buck,” Maddie leans forward covering his hand with her own, “I mean it. No one else is allowed to know about this.”
Buck opens his mouth, but Maddie reads him like the traitorous sister that she is and cuts him off by saying, “That includes Eddie.”
“Maddie,” Buck whines, and he’s very well aware at how pathetic it sounds, “that’s not fair! It’s — he’s — it’s Eddie!”
[or Maddie wants to propose to Chimney. She gets Buck involved. Buck can't tell anyone. He somehow proposes to Eddie instead.]

“I’m sorry…” Eddie said, holding his hand out to stop the tumble of words falling from Buck’s lips. “You want to what?”
Of all the things he thought Buck wanted to talk about at breakfast, the breakfast Buck had asked Eddie if he wanted to grab at the end of their long shift, this was nowhere near it.
“Fake date.” Buck repeated with all the confidence in the world that Eddie didn’t believe for a second because what Buck was proposing was insane. “For the holidays.”
aka Buck and Eddie agree to fake date each other to get through dinner with their parents during the holidays!

Summary
“Baby, I didn’t even know we were supposed to be celebrating our first month anniversary,” Eddie says.
Buck shrugs his shoulders lightly as he wraps his arms around Eddie’s neck and lowers his head a little until he can press his forehead against Eddie’s.
“It’s not like it was going to be an official celebration or anything. It was going to be a small little moment just for us before Chris woke up,” Buck whispers, his words a tender breeze against Eddie’s mouth. “But I burnt the cake because I fell asleep on the couch waiting for it to finish baking.”
“That’s very—”
“Silly, I know,” Buck says, but Eddie presses his forehead with more force into Buck’s before separating their faces slightly.
“Sweet,” Eddie corrects, pressing the tip of his nose into Buck’s and grazing them together a few times. “Nice. Thoughtful. Romantic.”
(a love story told through anniversaries.)
