It's been two years since Eddie has seen any of them, and what follows is Eddie's reckoning with what he left behind, and what he wants from his future.

So Eddie left, despite knowing that the cliff’s edge they had been balancing on might not be there when he came back.
And his mind reminds him of that now, as Alex Trebek announces the daily double, that the precipice might still be there. That he’ll see Steve again and be able to find his spot as easily as he did two years ago, right on the edge. That tomorrow, for better or worse, he’ll know."

“I dunno what I’m doing,” he whispers, pathetically, his heart fucking pounding in his chest like a goddamn metrenome- bumbumbumbumbumbum- as Steve breaks away to suck on his jaw, one hand under his shirt and the other threaded through Eddie’s.
“‘S’okay.” Steve murmurs, into his skin. His fingers wrap around Eddie’s waist. Applies pressure to his ribs. “Eds, just do what feels good.”
And that’s easy for Steve to say, but for Eddie, goddamn everything feels good. Everything sounds good. He wants Steve to swallow him whole.
OR- Eddie is nervous for his first experience with Steve.
Steve shows him he has nothing to worry about.

Summary
The year is 2001 and a lot has changed.
Eddie’s a mechanic in Michigan, floating though his life in the only way he knows how-, casual survival. He’s still friends with Dustin, but he's been pretty out of touch with anything and anyone from Hawkins for almost fifteen years.
Of course, that was his own fault. Who lets one night of their lives, one admittedly intimate night of their lives-, change the whole course of their future?
But one call from Dustin changes everything overnight. Forever feeling guilty for skipping town, Eddie is convinced to return to Hawkins where he finally faces his biggest fear-, finding out that what was supposed to be the most monumental mistake of his life never needed to be carried around like the burden that it never was.

“What do you mean?” he can’t help but ask, body thrumming with both nerves and tentative excitement. Hope is a dangerous drug, rushing through his veins and tunneling his vision until all that matters is the man before him.
Chuckling quietly, Steve shakes his head again disbelieving, a shy grin spreading across his face as he looks at Eddie. “Come on, man. You know what I mean.”
Biting his lip, Eddie blinks owlishly up at Steve, gaze darting around his face as he reluctantly admits, “No, I really don’t. Spell it out for me?”
