Viktor sputters incredulously, but Jayce powers on) “— I’m dragging you back to…” he blinks. “Who am I dragging you back to? Who do you have looking after you?”“I do not need a babysitter,” Viktor scoffs. “I have been through worse. I will be fine. I will pay someone to deliver some meals and take the week off work.”
Jayce looks at him like Viktor’s just said something incredibly and unbearably sad.
“So,” Viktor continues, “are you going to do the laundry, or not? If not, I will find someone else.”
Jayce is silent for a long moment. Then:
“Yeah,” he says. “I can do that.”
Viktor resigns himself to recover from spinal fusion surgery alone. He fails to account for Jayce's fervent desire to serve him.

The massacre of the Seelie Court following the execution of the Aurelius family is a closed case. There is no need to investigate why Hadrian ran afoul of the Court, or why his son was not there to be slaughtered. The full truth was known by one man, and he is dead — disintegrated in a golden vault, and his only friends in this plane are dead creatures walking at this point.
Nevertheless, there is always value to telling a story, no matter how irrelevant.

Instead of dissolving with Viktor like Jayce expected, he gets sent a decade into the past when Viktor didn’t even know him yet. Of course the logical action to take is to kidnap him. Meanwhile Viktor, twenty-two years old, figures that hey, as long as he can research magic, this isn’t too bad of a predicament.
Or: Post-Season 2 Jayce and Season 1 Viktor, the grief of having lost your soulmate while having to look at his younger version who doesn’t even know you, the endless exhaustion of being a second-hand love and also science.
