Columbina tilts her head. “Has it had any physical effects? Please indulge my lack of sight.”
Illuga frowns. “I don’t have any scars from the Hunter now, if that’s what you mean,” he says. “It’s as if I’d never been attacked in the first place.”
Aether’s hand hesitantly lands on Illuga’s shoulder. “I didn’t want to stress you out more until we could talk to Columbina, but now that we’re here, you should probably look at your reflection,” he says quietly, carefully.
His body stiffens in an instant, and that feeling of wrong, wrong, wrong hits him again full force. He steps out from under Aether’s touch and staggers on autopilot toward the closest pool of water. Illuga crouches down at the edge, pushing his fingers into his hair for some sort of grounding as he leans forward, lantern knocking against his thigh. He catches sight of his reflection, and his world tilts on its axis.
Illuga comes back from the dead more than human.

Summary
Illuga moved, his body having made the decision even though his conscious mind hadn’t caught up yet. He pushed Flins out of the way and felt the lance stab him in the heart through his back.
Strange, how that was almost painless. Perhaps his brain simply didn’t catch up yet. Perhaps it simply blocked away the pain. Either way, it was a small mercy. Slamming into the sand was hilariously more painful than the stab itself.Illuga took up an attack that would have injured Flins, nearly dying in the process because of the Abyssal corruption that took over. Flins refused to let that happen, even if the method to save Illuga wasn’t something he was proud of.

Illuga’s new job was supposed to be simple. Show up to work, make sure no one questions his status as the boss’s son, prove claims of nepotism wrong and work your absolute best. Well, it was simple until he saw the hot stranger whose body he had spent the entirety of last night familiarizing himself with, in front of him, talking to his father.
Well fuck. That wasn’t the plan at all.
In Illuga’s defence, if we speak about the semantics, he didn’t technically plan to sleep with the hot stranger from the bar last night. Just as he didn’t technically plan for that same stranger to stroll into his new job with a condescending smile, a penchant for false niceties and a badge reading— Supervising Director, Yours Truly, Illuga’s fucking downfall (creative liberties taken for story telling purposes)— but here we are.
Hindsight’s a bitch. The top dog at the company was topping him last night. Ha. Ha. Ha. Infeffa would find it funny, if he survived long enough to tell her the tale that is.

When Flins and the Traveler face off against the phantom Rerir at Starsand Shoal with the intention to stop him from regaining his true form, Rerir reveals a devastating repercussion from the way Flins has been keeping a fragment of Rerir's heart in his lantern: through the resonation of the Abyss, and the close proximity to Flins' true form, he has come to see what lies in Flins' heart.

Just when all hope is lost, Neuvillette smells a mysterious yet nostalgic scent right in the middle of his own garden, bringing back a long-forgotten alliance that was never really gone.
Neuvillette can no longer think nor speak, the overpowering scent igniting all his senses on fire and setting them ablaze until he is so overwhelmed that he fully collapses onto the grass in pained gasps, his mouth gaping wide open as razor-sharp canines begin to emerge from his swollen gums.
Conjuring up all his strength and willpower, Neuvillette leans up to whisper the one single word that his delirious brain can still muster.

Summary
Neuvillette knows little of what it means to be a dragon; he has spent his entire life among the people of Fontaine. Everything he does know about dragons, he has uncovered himself through trial and error and the occasional bit of obscure research. But this, at least, he recognizes.
Mating instincts.
By protecting him, the duke is behaving like a dragon seeking a mate, and that has triggered Neuvillette’s own instincts to judge the duke’s adequacy.
When Wriothesley begins acting like a dragon courting his mate, Neuvillette finds himself torn between duty and desire.

When Neuvillette learns how close Wriothesley came to being killed by the Primordial Sea, he finds his desire to care for the Melusines (diligently and from a safe emotional distance) has expanded to include the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide.
It’s not that odd. Neuvillette can do his best to help this particular human thrive, just like he’s done with the Melusines. It will help him better understand humans in general, which will help him better understand his purpose.
Surely he’s never going to have to think about it any more closely than that.

Neuvillette’s about to open his mouth to reassure him when the Alpha’s scent hits him. It silences Neuvillette before he speaks, his jaw clamping shut and his nostrils flaring. He trembles with the effort it takes not to immediately launch himself at the Alpha and curl around him protectively.
While Dragons may also have Alphas, Betas, and Omegas as Humans do, Dragons take only one mate. Their mate's very soul is bound to theirs in every life they will ever live, and Dragons can recognize these specially chosen mates immediately by scent.

Summary
Wriothesley is known for being organized, calculating and strategic when it comes to being the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide. However, when it comes to his own safety and personal well-being, he is severely lacking, and this doesn’t go unnoticed at all. Many of his colleagues, comrades and even the love of his life are witnesses of this dynamic every day.
Especially that certain hydro dragon lover of his that’s completely smitten and obsessed with him.
Unfortunately, all it takes is one near-fatal encounter for Neuvillette to give into his anxieties and instincts, making a rash decision that will prevent Wriothesley from ever coming close to another dire situation like this again.
A rash decision that may be as fatal with consequences as the one fateful encounter did.
TLDR: Wriothesley gets hurt bad, like bad-bad. Neuvillette is sick and tired of him putting himself in constant danger and adding to the scars that he has, so he does something to ensure that nothing will threaten his life again. He’s also head over heels in love with this man and has no shame in making him blush.
