“Oh my godddduh!” she groans. In true ghost fashion, her body ripples with frustration. Soulvester watches her fly over, then yelps as she swivels his chair right around.
“Soulvester Boolynsky, you’re tall, dark, and friggin’ handsome. You’ve got berry boy head over heels, everyone can see it, and you’re driving us all crazy with this endless pining. Go out there, bend a knee, and ask to dance before he thinks you hate him.”
Aggressive-affectionate scolding is a delicate art, mastered only by older sisters in times of need. Equal parts moved and scared for his life, Soulvester relents. “Is that an order?”
“Sure, whatever. I’m the lawful-good commander in charge of your squadron, and I’m forcing you to talk to your stupid boyfriend. If you don’t, the world explodes.”
“Not my boyfriend,” Soulvester insists, “But very well.”
With a lot of encouragement, Soulvester asks Sprout out on a dance.

Medkit rattled the drink in his hand, taking another shot. It was New Year’s Eve, and the celebration was in full swing around him. The clinking of glasses, laughter, and muffled music filled the room, but it all felt distant. He sat at the bar in a corner of the grand hall, dressed impeccably in his usual muted style: a dress shirt tucked neatly under a fitted vest, a teal cravat secured tightly at his neck, and loose, baggy dress pants that hung just enough to give him an air of careless sophistication. His white, pristine HV gloves gleamed under the dim lights, a stark contrast to his dark hair tied up neatly at the back, with his bangs framing his face.
Scythe and Broker were somewhere across the room, gambling their wallets—and likely their sanity—away. Everyone else was either engrossed in their own cliques or enjoying the celebrations too much to notice him. The laughter and joy around him felt like a distant echo, a reminder of the warmth he craved but couldn’t quite reach.
Parties make you feel so lonely sometimes. Good thing, *he's* there.

Wrapping each macaron with care, he nestled the plate in the fridge, giving the plate one last affectionate look as he shut the fridge door. Now all that was left was to wait, which, he realized, might be the hardest part of all.
With a playful giggle, he glanced around the empty kitchen, imagining the look on Banhammer and Medkit’s faces when they saw his surprise. He almost couldn’t wait, already counting down the hours until they came home.

He had curled up on the kitchen counter, too drained to care where he lay, too sick to think straight. A thick blanket was draped over him now, its warmth a fragile comfort against the feverish heat that made him feel like he was burning alive.
He hated feeling like this. He hated being vulnerable, and yet, here he was, sprawled out on the cold table, his pride shattered by the sickness that gripped him. He bit down on his lip, trying to stifle the sobs that rose in his throat, but it was no use. The tears came anyway, burning as they streaked down his cheeks, a testament to how utterly powerless he felt.
