Here's the thing about Clark Kent that nobody knew:
He had rules.
Not the kind of rules his parents had taught him—be kind, work hard, use your abilities to help people. Those were givens, baked into his DNA (or whatever passed for DNA in a Kryptonian). No, these were different. These were survival rules, developed over years of trial and error, designed to keep him sane in a world where he would never quite belong.Clark Kent is perfect, ridiculously good looking, and completely commitment-phobic—he has to be, so he can be the Superman everyone needs. Until he meets Lois Lane, who fucks everything up in less than 24 hours—except she doesn’t remember any of it.
*AU but LOTS of references/rewrites of canon. Very loosely based on 50 First Dates - but without the gross stuff, more of an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind homage // prev titled ‘can’t live in a world where you don’t love me’

Summary
He’s not sure what to expect now that Lois is back in town. Technically, nothing happened between them, but he can’t forget how it almost did. He kissed her, almost, She told him she loved him, almost. They acknowledged there was something between them, almost. Then he blinked and Lois was in Star City and Lana was back in his bed.
And Lana is great, but she isn’t Lois. Clark doesn’t know quite when that started to matter so much.
Or, Lana doesn't leave Smallville at the end of Requiem. Lois comes back anyways.

Francesca stuck her hand out for her daughter's teacher to shake, finally regaining control of her body's mobility. “It was nice meeting you, Miss Stirling. I see now… why my daughter is so enamored with you.”
She returned the warmth of Miss Stirling’s smile, allowing herself to get lost in her eyes once more.
“It was my pleasure, Mrs. Kilmartin.” She took Francesca’s hand, eyes fanning her frame, panning upwards. They deepened when they met each other's gaze. “Your daughter is special. You should be nothing less than proud.”
Francesca blinked, heart thudding wildly in her chest. She'd been staring, for longer than she deemed appropriate, not wanting to avert Miss Stirling's eyes. And, if she'd been reading the moment correctly, it appeared her desired ogling had not been one sided.

There are two pairs of eyes staring intently at her. It’s frighteningly comical how neither of them blinks.
“I told you. Our characters aren't romantically involved,” she reasons, stifling a chuckle. “I haven’t kissed him,” and then, with only a slight twist of wickedness, she adds, “yet.”

Instead, she lands in the middle of a chaotic TV series with a cast full of history, drama everywhere, and absolutely nothing under control. As if that weren’t enough, she’s also stuck working with the producer’s mysterious nephew, and what was supposed to be an easy job might just turn into the biggest mess of her career.
