I get a little revenge on her for meddling in my love life by finding a completely unsuitable partner.” He caught a glimpse of Mithrun’s annoyed expression and hastened to add, “In her opinion! I think you’d be a fine partner if you wanted to, but I know you don’t. But hey, that’s a perk too, really. Since you can’t feel desire, it won’t get complicated."

“See?” Mithrun calls out, waving the now-limp bouquet of flowers in his hand for emphasis. “They have no effect on me.”
But before Kabru can so much as breathe a sigh of relief, Mithrun suddenly doubles over and sneezes. When he rights himself again, his face is flushed, and there’s a dazed unevenness to his gait.
“Nevermind,” says Mithrun, blinking rapidly now. “It seems I’m aroused.”

Mithrun's been able to operate within a schedule and routine since he took on the role of ambassador in Melini, but much of his daily life involves Kabru which leaves him at a loss when Kabru leaves on a diplomatic trip. To keep from falling back into his old habits, Mithrun begins imagining Kabru as motivation when he needs something done, from remembering to eat to... other activities to help him fall asleep.

Kabru didn’t see Mithrun very often.
Between Kabru's work as a royal advisor and Mithrun's post-retirement plan to help track and control the monsters in outlying areas of the kingdom, weeks at a time passed when they weren't even in the same place.
Kabru quickly realized, to his surprise and annoyance, that he missed Mithrun when he was gone. They hadn’t even spent that many days together in the dungeon, but somewhere between lulling Mithrun to sleep every night, fighting a demon together, and helping Mithrun begin to find a new purpose in life, Kabru had come to feel close to the other man. Mithrun, he was sure, didn’t feel the same way. How could he miss Kabru or care about seeing him if he had no desires? And yet, every time Mithrun was back in town, he came by to visit.
