Summary
When Cardinal Thomas Lawrence confronts Aldo Bellini with evidence of Tremblay’s simony, their fight takes a different, unexpected turn. Instead of retreating into silence, Aldo lashes out, arguing that survival and action matter more than spotless moral purity. What begins as a bitter clash between two old friends (and most important people in the Church’s hierarchy) becomes the spark that once again pushes Aldo into the center of the conclave and onto a path neither he nor Thomas had foreseen.
Pulled between doubt and duty, Aldo steps forward, his campaign shaped as much by passionate speeches as by late-night plotting with Giulio Sabbadin, and the complicated loyalty of Thomas Lawrence. To his horror, Aldo finds himself caught between friendship, longing, faith, and the unbearable reality of becoming pope.

“Haymitch, c’mon. It’s late.” She said as she walked up to him, looking down at him. He was staring ahead of them, and that’s when she realized he was facing the old Justice Building. Where the stage used to go. She let out a sigh at her realization, crouching down and picking up the empty bottle so it wouldn’t get shattered. “Peeta’s worried, let’s go home.” She tried again.
The lack of response wasn’t great, and she was about to start going to get Peeta to help get him home when Haymitch finally talked.
“The 75th was the, the first time I got my name pulled.”
