Summary
With arms around her that are both thin like willow branches but strong, Nangong Jingnu hiccups through another sob. She thinks she should beat this man to death for daring to touch her. But… He isn’t doing anything but stroking her hair. It’s soft and nice, the motions comforting. They remind her of Emperor Father, who would hold her when she was little.
“I want to go home!” she wails.
Agula pulls Nangong Jingnu’s hands away from her face so she can look deep into those onyx eyes. “When the Luo River freezes, I will take you home,” she says.
Nangong Jingnu catches herself on another sob, staring at Agula’s amber eyes. Suddenly, she does not feel she’s looking at a random tribesperson. She sees a steel in his gaze that can only come from one thing: royalty. Sniffling, she grasps onto the cheek she had slapped earlier so that Agula does not look away. “I-”

It was not that up until then Sizhui had been oblivious to Jin Ling’s strengths.
It didn’t matter how bravely he saw him fight during night hunts, or how fierce and determined he had looked standing up for himself and his battles, or or or. What struck the young Lan the most was his kindness.
He’s aware that Jingyi would probably laugh at him if he regrettably dared to say it aloud.or Sizhui reflects on how much they have both grown

Jin Ling frowns. “Why would you pay money to go on a cruise if you’re prone to seasickness?”
Jingyi, with his arms still wrapped around Lan Yuan’s body to hold him up, glares at Jin Ling. “This is his first time on a boat!” he seethes.
Meanwhile, Lan Yuan seems to be looking more and more pitiful by the second. All the colour has drained from his face, and he’s staring at the floor with worried eyes, like he’s three seconds away from vomiting. “Um… Jingyi…”
But Jingyi is still glaring up at Jin Ling. “Since you’re bothering us, either be useful and help me get him back to his room or go away.”
(Jin Ling begrudgingly picks the first option.)

His vision was getting hazy, and as Hanguang-jun continued to speak his voice was starting to sound more garbled and distant, as if he was speaking underwater.
“We wasted so much of our youth being influenced by those who wished to keep us apart,” he was saying. “I do not want to see the same thing happen to you and Jin Ling.”

“I need some advice on something,” Jin Ling says. “There’s someone… that I like. Someone from the Lan sect.”
Sizhui twitches an eyebrow; it’s the slightest movement. Jin Ling takes a deep breath before continuing. “I want to court him but I—but he’s—” he tries to explain, feeling Sizhui’s warm gaze like fire on his skin. “He’s different than the other Lans.” He’s better. He’s special. “So, I need to impress him.”
It takes a moment for Sizhui to react, and when he finally does, it’s with a gasp. He brings a hand up to his mouth. “Oh my gosh! Jin Ling—you like Jingyi, don’t you?”
Jin Ling blinks. “What? I mean—uh. Yes?” he tentatively agrees, though he has absolutely no idea why. “You guessed correctly,” he says, though Sizhui had not. The more he speaks, the thinner his voice seems to feel. He laughs awkwardly, practically barking the sound out. “That obvious, is it?”

Jin Ling is in love with Sizhui, and at his wit’s end, decides to ask Sizhui for advice. But Sizhui thinks that Jin Ling likes Jingyi, and Jin Ling doesn’t have the heart to correct him—especially when Sizhui is so eager to help him.
