they say there's nothing at the top of the tower.
just a flat expanse of misshapen rocks and pebbles, and the few spindly weeds that are stubborn enough to grow on such an unforgiving terrain.
they say the stars aren't all they're made out to be. just dim splotches of light against a sheet of ink, no larger than the point of a pencil.
if you were to get closer, you'd find that they're just burning balls of gas — and by the time their light reaches your eyes, half of them will be dead anyways.

the world ends on a sunday.
there's no fire and brimstone, no chorus of seraphim, no blazing chariots of fire.
the four horsemen don't bother to make an appearance, evidently too busy playing go fish with surtr and that one saber-toothed squirrel from ice age.bam never liked sundays; the nagging reminder that monday looms around the corner means he usually spends the whole day feeling antsy and restless, lazing around out of listlessness rather than for the sake of relaxing.
there's no riots, no mass hysteria, no end time preachers waving placards in your face, because when the apocalypse begins, it doesn't tell a soul.

Aki nodded, a bit dazed. Neither of their attempts at casualness were totally natural. What to do when your devil buddy showed an odd interest in speedrunning the intimate rituals of human soothing and affection was not part of the training he and Morikawa had been subjected to, nor was what to do when you start feeling that desire in the opposite direction.
But they had emphasized from day one to trust your gut when it came to devils. Said that it was usually right.

Today, Angel sticks a receipt between the pages to mark his spot, and then dumps the book back in the compartment. "Do you think I should have more eyes?"
"I think you're fine as you are," Aki replies.

Angel stays very still. The Gun Devil, squinting at Angel like he’s trying to figure something out, doesn’t shoot. Something hopeful flickers in his expression.
“Angel?” he asks, disbelieving.
“The Gun Devil,” Angel returns warily, unsure of what the normal response is here. Does he beg for his life? Would that even do anything?
The Gun Devil’s expression shutters. “Sorry,” he says. The gun drops down.
The Gun Devil has taken an interest in Angel.

While Gou is on a short trip, Satoshi worries about where his journey will take him next, and if he will have to be away from Gou or not. Gou is the more straightforward - ha, straight - of the two, and tells his friend exactly how he feels while Satoshi isn't sure how to deal with his feelings for his friend. It seems they've picked up more than a few attitudes from each other.
Really, another character study that ran away from me. The original file is titled 'something something pining'.
