"Morning," Jules yawns, but he can hear the hint of amusement in her voice.
A tired, "Hey Jules," is her reply.
"I came to see if you wanted a deputy to bring us breakfast," she says slowly, "but that is not very important anymore."
There's a pause before Shirley answers, asking, "What are you talking about?" now sounding much more awake.
Suddenly, he can feel himself being watched by both of them, so he concentrates on keeping his breathing slow and even.
"Right," Shirley says, and he can hear the smile in her voice.
After they took control of the Silo
After Jules saves everyone (twice)
After everyone makes it down to Medical to be patched up

Summary
"We did it," she says finally. Turning to him, there's so much emotion in him that it makes her cry harder.
"A star."
He says, "The first of many," and it sounds like a promise, a surprising one from someone who apparently doesn't love doing this anymore.
This is his first, too, at least the first to him that feels unspoiled because the ones at Empire were so rotten to him, she understands that now.
What is going on in his head? Is he already thinking about the next one or retaining this one? But why? That's not exactly his responsibility, it's hers. He made it hers.

"Don't you want to know why I will always let you kiss me?" he asks softly, "If I were you, I'd want to know."
That's a temptation she can't let herself have. If he dares to say love, she couldn't deal with that, not tonight. "Nope," she says into his cheek.
"I think you're lying," he says as if they are so much younger than they are, just two stupid kids sharing a secret.
"I think you should shut up and sleep," she says, her lips capturing his for just a second more.
I went from being excited about the heat and desperation in that kiss cause if they weren't interrupted, she was seconds from being on his lap to over-analyzing the one kiss we got and how there was so little hesitation or awkwardness as it started. I couldn't help but wonder if this was actually the first time these two have kissed.
They're so comfortable with each other. They've known each other their whole lives, both mechanical born and raised; it wouldn't be impossible for them to have kissed before. Maybe it's just been a while.
That's what inspired this.
Well, that, and the out-of-focus hug in the finale cause that hug looked so incredible; I'm still a little envious of Shirley, honestly.

Nightmares are inevitable, but the distance, the silence, and the darkness he wakes up to afterward don't have to be an inevitably that he must endure alone.
The distance is so easily bridged; she makes it seem so simple.
The silence can be as comforting as a loving hug, a gentle whisper, or a soft sigh.
The darkness should be something he embraces, if only as an excuse to be even more open.Waking from a nightmare is something he's too familiar with. He isn't used to managing the minutes after with someone else in bed beside him. It never occurred to him that this was something that could be made easier with the right person.

Everyone's a little broken. The edges not quite as smooth as they once were, pieces missing, carved out.
There's no way around that. Life does that to a person.
The person you love shouldn't want to fix or put you back together.
They should want their broken edges to meet yours and find a comfortable fit, for their souls to dovetail with yours and find something new about themselves, about you in the process. Something that strengthens you both.
