Troy had posters. He didn’t hang them on his wall but he had them, under his bed, hidden inside a chemistry book.
He didn’t exactly know why but they brought him a weird kind of joy, a sweet kind that made his ears and cheeks warm when he took them out and just… pretended like he could stick them to the wall next to his bed. So he kept them.

He’s 18 years old, starting center for the Montreal Metro’s, and they’ve just suffered their first loss of the season—no thanks to him; 2-3 against Boston, an overtime loss on home-ice. It’s embarrassing enough, and now he’s standing in the team locker room, his hair still drippy from the shower, and his captain, Chris Larson, is holding out a but plug. At least he has the sensitivity to look a little apologetic about it.
“Yeah, so, like I said. Rozanov has requested you.”
Or, Shane is chosen for the winner's room and is advised to 'warm up' beforehand using a team-issued but plug.

Troy had read a lot about different methods of taking your own life back in Toronto. Drowning had been a common one, but also one Troy had immediately crossed out, even when making his purely hypothetical list.
It sounded painful. Everyone who survived described the burning of your lungs, the pain of choking on the water, the sudden instinct from your body to fight for survival.
Troy didn’t feel like that now. It felt like he could breathe in and welcome that floating feeling inside of him too. Like he could finally be free of the burden on his soul if he flooded it and let his troubles rise to the top.
