The moment Jamie punches his dad, he knows this isn't over. Knows his dad can't let this slide. He doesn't expect anything less than retribution when he goes home.
Roy realizes in a split second that Jamie is made up of a thousand tiny instances that Roy has never witnessed. And he's not the selfish prick that Roy painted him out to be.
"Things start to improve. It’s a slow gradual pace, but it’s better than nothing, and Roy stops ignoring him. Ted still keeps on with his eternal cheeriness and his team starts inviting him places again. He goes to the pub with Isaac and Dani and the black hole feels a little smaller that night. And he thinks he can survive like this.
He’s learned his lesson this time, he really has. He’s not going to push for more than he deserves and he’s not going to pretend he deserves the same love that the rest of the team does. He so thoroughly burned that bridge it’s nothing but ashes. You can’t build shit out of ashes."

It wasn’t like Sam completely abandoned all food in an instant. Whether it was a life on the run, or life as a homeless college freshman; time, money, food, they had always been scarce. The only difference now, was that Sam had no tactical reason to limit his intake of food. He was just doing it. Deliberately.

The very obvious factor Sam hadn’t accounted for was that losing weight was noticeable. Very noticeable.
“Sam, you are killing yourself.” Dean shouted, loud enough to make Sam flinch. “You are killing yourself, you see that? Tell me you see that.”
“Yeah, well, maybe I want to!”

“Better?” He asked once he was all changed. Robert weakly nodded and leaned against the couch again. He whined. “What’s the matter?” Chase asked, taking a seat on Robert’s coffee table.
Robert just seemed to mutter and grumble, but his face was pained. His voice was croaky and breathy. Chase hummed in thought, leaning forward and brushing hair from Robert’s eyes. He still looked pale and weak.
“Maybe you are sick. You’re really pale.” He thought out loud, getting a disapproving groan from Robert. Chase’s hand moved from brushing hair from his eyes to be on the back of his forehead. “You don’t feel that warm.” He noticed how Robert seemed to be tilting his head in the direction of Chase’s hand.
Chase turned to the end of the couch and lay down a pillow that was there, before placing a hand on Robert’s shoulder. “Let’s get you layin’ down, kid.”

The thing is, these so-called “Heroes for Hire” the SDN sends out are not like him. They are government polished, rule-bound, wrapped up in red tape and shiny press briefings. They operate like glorified cops, all clean reports and legal backing. He, on the other hand, is an independent contractor in the loosest sense. An indie hero, they call it. Not bound to protocol. Not recognised either.
He works beside detectives, not for them. He goes into the places no one else wants to go, digs through the filth others won’t touch. He finds the evidence that won’t stand up in court but still tells the truth. And when it’s over, his name never makes it into the case file. The report just reads “uncredited assistance.”
