Summary
Part of Ronan was satisfied; he’d succeeded somewhat. Adam had, for once, not blankly stared at Ronan’s unpleasantness like it was a particularly persistent mosquito. He’d been bothered enough to physically react, even if that reaction was only flight. Ronan took pride in his ability to push people away, to make them jittery when in his general vicinity, like he had his very own kind of nuclear blast radius for social interactions. It usually felt good to release some of the rage that burned like a neverending gas leak in the pit of his stomach. And it had felt good to realize he’d said something effective enough to make someone as unflappable as Adam react to it.
But as he watched his lithe, wounded figure move away from him, the rage flung itself backwards into him. At some point he’d started hoping Adam would stand his ground and push back against Ronan’s abrasiveness, and his subconscious had forgotten to give him the memo.
Or: Adam and Ronan, over the years.

After many lackluster performances from the Metros these past few months, it only makes sense…”
The anchor continues as a clip of Rozanov from a post-game interview last year plays—he’s shirtless and sweaty, smirking into the camera. And then he does that…that wink. Shane just stares up at the screen, dumbfounded. He’s not listening to the details anymore, but the words echo in his head.
Metros to acquire Ilya Rozanov…
His team to acquire Rozanov.
