“What 10-questions-to-ask-your-teammate-to-get-to-know-them site did you get that one from?” Lewis laughs, as he moves to pull the balaclava over his head. They have 5 minutes until they have to be ready in the car and admittedly, this moment might not be the best time to ask this kind of question.
“No, I mean it,” Charles insists, lifting his helmet from the stand, but holding it awkwardly in his hands, maintaining eye contact. “If you were stuck, what would you do?”
Lewis places his hand on his shoulder lightly, squeezing once. “We can talk about this after the race, yes?”
There won’t be an after the race, Charles thinks bitterly, but he nods his head anyway. “Yeah,” he agrees, “after the race, sure.”

When Max's sister signed him up for a dating show, he imagined that he would be on The Bachelor or Love is Blind (not that he wanted to do either of those). Never in his wildest dreams did he think that Victoria would sign him up for Love Island where he would be parading around in his swim suit all summer in hopes of finding love in the middle of Spain.
Max's goal then became to be as authentic as possible, not put up with any bullshit from other islanders, and to try not to cry on national television. Before leaving, Max told his sister that he would probably end up being dumped at the first chance available. Little did he know that after this summer, he would end up admitting that maybe, just maybe, Victoria granted him the biggest gift ever by submitting an application for him.

He clicked, and answered the call.
“Hey.”
The voice came through clear, rich, and far too smooth for someone who had just LMFAO in a casual conversation. It was low, slightly raspy, and tinged with an accent that Charles couldn’t immediately place but sounded… Dutch? Belgian? European chaos?
“Can you hear me?” SuperMax asked again.
Charles forgot how to breathe for half a second. He made a strange sound in the back of his throat. Something between a cough and a nervous bonjour .
“Yes,” he managed, voice cracking like a haunted violin. “Yes. Loud and clear.”
“Cool,” SuperMax replied. “Screen share when you’re ready, Lecloof.”
OR:
Charles hired a Valorant coach to fix his aim. Not develop a crush on the Dutch guy roasting his mouse grip.
Now he's flustered by hand cams, ignoring his situationship, and maybe falling for the voice in his headset.

That draws a surprised laugh from Max, who stares at him with wide eyes. “And you don’t actually have someone to bring home for Christmas, I take it?”
“No,” the Monégasque admits, rubbing at the back of his neck.
“Damn,” Max huffs, sounding both surprised and amused. “You didn’t give her a fake name as well, did you?”
And, well, at least he didn’t technically do that.
“Not exactly.”
“What does that mean?”
Charles lets out a groan and leans his head back against the wall again, staring at the bright Lusail sky.
He takes a deep breath, deciding he’s already told Max too much to back out now, and offers him the kind of honesty he was unable to offer his own mother.
“I might have told her I was bringing you?”
