Satoru’s eyes widen, and despite all the detachment he prides himself on, his eyes begin to water. He swipes them away and tries a shaky grin.
“Touché, Suguru. I think I’d like to be your friend too.”
OR
Satoru and Suguru meet in court-mandated grief counselling. Both at the end of their rope, they decide to take a road trip across the country, ending in their deaths. Along the way, they find joy and connection again, and maybe something worth living for.

“We’d pray.” Ford replies, his heart still squeezed in that vice-like grip, like the time he had seen a lockjaw dog close its teeth around a rodent's spine.
“Well, isn’t that just delightful. Why don’t you give it a shot?” Bill suggests, leaning back on his hands now, perfectly content with this show of allegiance. The light of the candles glowed on his patchwork skin, stiches and runes highlighted in the dying light of the study.
Ford begins, only to halt at Bill’s raised finger.
“Wait, stop.” Bill utters, a grin like a jackknife splitting his face. “On your knees.”
