One chapter a day for DenNor Week 2020 (11 to 17 May), run by @Pixetalia on Tumblr

"You. My morning call. My first kiss. My comfort. My hygge. My fairytale prince. My fellow seafarer. My... friend. Idiot, you should know that I feel as much, perhaps even more, for you than you might ever feel for me. I just cannot bring myself to tell. Not yet. When the right time comes I will find the courage to let you in again, and until the day comes...

    "Wait for me."

    Summary

“You named yourself Lien, after a lotus. A flower that should emerge from the swamps but remain pure. A beauty to be observed from afar, but never to be roughly treated. Yet, look at you and your beastly women, thinking yourself budding flowers! I can only laugh!”

“... I can say the same to you, Yao. You do shine like celestial bodies, being so full of greed that you stench of gold. Glorious of you to slaughter my men and force their wives and daughters into taking up arms! And to think your people were chivalrous!”

It was China’s turn to be irked. However, his men called as he was about to do so, and he turned to leave in a rage. Vietnam then decided to rid her body of the blood and soil in a nearby stream. Unwavering hazel eyes and a gentle, tanned complexion emerged from the crystalline water, surrounded by moonbeams that waltzed on its serene surface.

A lotus flower, she thought at the sight: petals pristine in spite of dirt and grime, her stem staunch amid tempest and war, wherever the tides of history might carry her.

    Summary

Written for LietPol Secret Santa Exchange 2019.

For the first time in three and a half centuries, Lithuania and Poland spend their Christmas Eve together, in the way they used to (kind of) during the Commonwealth: with a Kūčios/Wigilia (Twelve-dish Christmas Eve dinner).

    Summary

“Ber, do you think it is a sin to love?”

“Of course not, Mette. Why would you say that? Isn’t love the greatest thing a person could ever receive, or ever give? After all, it is only by love that you can understand your conscience, and God–”

“But God lied. He lay down all these rules to be followed, but they have only caused wars and destruction. He told us to love and forgive, but He took the lead in judging and killed the innocent indiscriminately. He said to love one another, but people who pursue love end up getting hurt, imprisoned, stoned, burned… like Antonio and Lo–”

“They deserved it. It’s abnormal. It’s wrong.”

“What is? Love? Them? Aren’t we all the same? They’re just like you and me, no?”

“Yes. But, no. Because it’s against nature–”

    “And what about your ‘wife’?”

    **************

In which a mismatched couple married only to avoid social stigma, both in mourning and trapped in an unrequited love, learn to tolerate each other, forgive, and move on.

    Summary

"All this time Emil had not ceased writing, his fingers still dancing to the rain’s splatter. Yet, watching the stranger before him, and thinking back to the two men in the rain’s embrace, something struck his mind. An understanding. Perhaps, not everyone loved the rain like he did, and that’s alright. Even among those who did, each might have their own interpretation of it. Rain was something to be shared by everybody, and like stories, each person was entitled to their own retelling."

In which four idiots discover each other, and themselves, in the rain. Originally written for a competition.

    Summary

"Denmark couldn’t help but wonder when those bright magenta eyes had become clouded with this mask of apathy. He vaguely remembered a time, perhaps too long ago, when everyone smiled. A time when there was nothing to conceal, to be guessed or second-guessed. This often resulted in brawls but they would've been, in turn, resolved in laughter and the reassured promise only family could give.

He remembered a time when Norway smiled that way, side to side, eyes creased and cheeks all flustered. It was the same smile Iceland used to have, as did Faroe. One had a right dimple, another had both. Yet, it was only the left-dimpled beam he could clearly envision now, for her smile was the only one left. The one that never left.

He took another chug to clear himself of the delusions. 'Wake up, old man,' his mind heaved. 'Let the past bury itself. Let it go.'"

Once upon a time, someone challenged me to write a Nordic fic about how "Frozen", the Disney movie, was made.

What started as a crackfic took a 90-degree turn and culminated into this bittersweet cloud of fluff, with too many references to "The Snow Queen" by HC Andersen, aka OG Frozen.

Yoohoo! About time we thawed the frozen heart!

    Summary

    “NI—”

The inhuman bleat that just came out of the Swede’s mouth froze Denmark in his tracks. It was nothing like anything he had heard in his short few centuries alive, even less so anything he had heard from Sweden, whom he, along with Norway and eventually Finland, grew up teasing for his delicate treble singing, and for having the highest voice among them.

“Wha… What was that?” He stuttered, unsure of what to make of whatever just happened. Darting an uncomfortable glance at an even more discomforted Sweden, he couldn’t help shudder at the intense turquoise stare, now radiating formidable terror and screaming dread. The stoic face was drained of all the earlier cheerfulness, mortified and beet red.

[And perhaps it will please us one day to remember these things -- Virgil]

The DRV3 game was not what it seems, but a plan hatched by Kokichi, supported by Makoto, and executed by Iidabashi and the survivors of SDR2 to explore the boundaries of the Neo World Programme and recreate the killing game premise, in an attempt to awaken the comatose Remnants. All participants were volunteers closely related to either the Remnants, HPA or Future Foundation, and Kiibo the alter ego resembling Chiaki's function.

Just sixteen future Ultimates, smiling at despair in the name of hope, unsung heroes fighting the despair that had enveloped and become their lives.

    Summary

“Why? Why does his voice have to keep you back? Does he not know how much this means to you? If he were truly a friend, if he truly cared, he would leave you alone. He would let you make your choice. He would be glad for your decision, not only because you made it, but also because it was what you yourself wanted, desired, for too, too long.

“‘Go away,’ you tell him, your voice alike a brittle stone, hard and fragile. ‘If you cherished Death, if you cherished me, leave me be. Let me sleep a happy eternity.’”
