Shane groaned and walked to the living room where he dropped down in the armchair beside the couch. “No, it’s not a crisis.” He glared at Jackie. “There’s a guy in our lecture that keeps looking at me, but when I make eye contact with him, he just smirks and looks away.”
“You didn’t tell me he was smirking, Shane!” Jackie gasped from her spot on the arm of the couch. “Oh, he totally wants you!”
Shane glared at her, “Again, no he doesn’t. Looking at me and smirking when we make eye contact does not mean he wants me.”
“Yes, it does,” J.J. and Hayden chimed in at the exact same time. They both chuckled and glanced at each other before fist-bumping.
“Whatever,” Shane stood, “I’m not talking about this anymore. I have work to do on that research paper for lab on Friday. Jackie?”

Summary
Shane Hollander has the highest hockey IQ in the NHL...and actively pretends he doesn't. He's already set himself apart in many ways, and he doesn't need "absolute hockey nerd" added to the list.
Keeping this secret gets harder as he stops hiding other parts of himself from those around him. He comes out to the Voyageurs (who don't take it very well), he starts hanging out with the Raiders (though no one has a clue about him and Ilya being anything beyond friends), and he feels as if he is losing parts of himself in the expectations others hold for him.
Ilya notices, and resolves to create a space that his boyfriend can thrive in, even if that means getting him the fuck out of Montreal.
Set during The Long Game, where Shane and Ilya have made their plan, Shane's parents know about their relationship, and they've started telling people they are friends, but before Ilya officially transfers to Ottawa. That's right folks, this is a "Boston steals Shane Hollander" fic. We need more, and I am here to contribute☺️🫰

Cliff Marleau can be a dumbass, it’s fair to say - anyone can, some people would claim it more likely for men, and some people would certainly claim that being in a profession that involves violence, speed, and sharp things, and a ridiculous amount of travel all on a regular basis would make it pretty likely for someone to be a dumbass. He does dumb shit sometimes, but it’s usually pretty basic.
Actually, how this started was years ago, when he still felt just barely out of being a rookie himself and Coach asked him to keep a watch on their new Russian rookie Ilya Rozanov, now Boston’s captain and one of Cliff’s good friends.
And Cliff is pretty damn curious about the girlfriend Ilya swears he doesn’t want to have.
