Summary
Castiel doesn’t do one-night stands. Once he hit forty, he figured his time was up, his life had pretty much come to a halt, and there was nobody out there for him. The storm washes up a trio of ducklings, huddled for shelter inside the rainboots of the new-to-town kindergarten teacher (and retired motorcycle daredevil), Dean Winchester. Ducklings in hand, Dean seeks out Castiel’s veterinary expertise. Somehow, in a flustered, spontaneous burst of attraction, they spend the night together. And just like that, Castiel’s life starts again. With every passing week they become better friends, sharing deeper intimacies, caring for their duck babies as well as each other. But staying together requires taking risks which neither of them planned for. Dean’s risk puts him in extreme physical jeopardy. And Cas? He has to overcome fifteen years of emotional hurt, just to follow where Dean leads.

Horses, seriously? Yeah, really not his thing. But then he meets Castiel, the awkward and…well, kind of strange volunteer with the program. At first he’s unsure of what to think about Castiel, or his horses. But as he builds up his confidence, both in himself and others, he learns a couple things: horses are actually pretty freakin’ awesome, family can surprise you, and that occasionally good things come wrapped in strange packages.

If Castiel Novak had to pick one word to describe himself, he knew precisely what it would be. Boring. Tax accountants, while a necessary evil to the world were boring, and he would likely qualify as the most boring one that existed. However, when his best friend (though he used that title very broadly when applying it to Balthazar), dares him to make one small change to his routine, just one, Castiel doesn’t have it in him to argue. His decision to turn right on the route he walks home instead of left brings one Dean Winchester, local mechanic and brand new pastry shop owner, crashing into his life. Dean turns his routine upside down and backwards, but Castiel doesn’t…mind. He keeps turning right, and keeps running into Dean. Maybe routine disruption is…good?
