Ignis is found to have such a mark and is betrothed to Noctis when they first meet, but as he grows up is always told the mark holder is supposed to feel intense love for their chosen monarch, he feels a brotherly love for Noctis but nothing romantic and just assumes it'll eventually come until they have a Nif delegation arrive and he meets Ardyn and all the feelings he was supposed to feel for Noctis he feels for Ardyn the true mark's owner. In an effort to curb the bloodshed between Niflheim and Lucis, a delegation is sent to propose a ceasefire. The results are favorable, giving Ardyn an excuse to visit Lucis and see the fabled King of Light for himself. What Ardyn hadn't expected was to be drawn to a younger boy that was part of the delegation. The fact that he was the Prince's advisor was a plus though.

Eos is ruled by clans of humans and monsters. One of the most prominent vampire clans are the Lucis Caelums ruled by Somnus. He makes it a point to track down humans that stand in opposition to the vampires: the Hunters. One of these Houses is led by Ignis Scientia who works in tandem with the Nox Fleurets - a group of white mages tasked with protecting humanity from the vampire population. One of Somnus's campaigns against the Hunters leaves an orphaned Prompto with a mark on his back and resentment towards the vampires that killed his family. Little does he know that the Lucis Caelums are also hiding a secret from the humans.
