Summary
It’s a long tradition passed down through generations of her family: the odd power of taking peoples’ pain. Every woman, from her mother, to her mother before her, they all knew how to take another’s pain and set it loose to some other task in this world, but Rey never could. All she did was absorb it - small pains, like pin pricks or brush burns, or big ones, like the loss of a leg or a spouse. Heartbreaks, rage, grief, agony - it all coursed into her body with the smallest touch, and there it would live.
And so here is where she lives - this tiny island, twenty miles from the shore and the nearest soul. She is safe here.
