It’s the second time he’s said that today. Seungmin slides his gaze sideways. Minho is scowling, but in that exaggerated way that means he doesn’t mean it. “So I’m never getting married,” he declares brazenly, just to see what Minho will do.
Minho purses his mouth and slides his own eyes sideways to meet Seungmin’s. He takes in the smile Seungmin is doing a bad job of fighting back. “Wrong again, Kim Seungmin,” he says. His fingers tighten.'

“Me and you,” Minho clarified. Then he scoffed for good measure.
“Hmm,” said Seungmin. He didn’t appear to be particularly affected by it, which was aggravating. Minho had been hoping that he would look horrified and leave immediately, stop intruding on Minho’s space or something, but he just turned the page of his notebook. “I can’t believe he thinks my standards are so low. I’d expect better behavior from someone I was actually dating.”
Minho let out an outraged noise that was too loud in the muffled library. “I’ll have you know that I am on my best behavior,” he hissed.
“I still have all my limbs, so it probably is your best,” Seungmin agreed. “But basic physical safety isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for a romantic partner, you know.”Or: If Seungmin is going to ruin Minho's semester by crowding his study table, Minho will be damned if Seungmin's allowed to go on a date with someone else and have fun. Even if it is for charity. Even if Minho has to pay out of pocket for the privilege of ruining Seungmin's chances at a nice time.

There’s a safe house near Itaewon that Seungmin frequents. He swings by at precisely 3:20 PM, but only on weekdays.
Further up the block is a playground. At 3:13 PM, a yellow school bus rolls past and comes to a stop.
Seungmin parks kitty-corner in his usual spot beside an electrical pole. The angle gives him an unobstructed view of the moment when the doors swing open and a familiar school teacher steps out onto the sidewalk.
Seungmin doesn’t know his name, just that everyone calls him Hwang-ssaem, and that he is the most beautiful man Seungmin has ever seen in his life.
The whole process of unloading the students takes about seven minutes.
So for seven minutes, Seungmin pretends. He pretends that he is the kind of man who can have beautiful things.

It’s a routine they’ve fallen into—eyes light and surprised as he swipes a finger over the brown spine of a book and greets him with a polite bow. “Hyunjin-ssi,” he’ll say, careful to keep any suspicion out of his voice, “fancy seeing you here.” Hyunjin will bow back as polite as ever, a small smile on his face, hands folded over the hem of his long beige coat.

Summary
Oh no. He must look like a wreck. With snot and tears and hair all over the place. But Seungmin doesn’t look deterred. Instead he looks concerned, in the way he usually does.
Seungmin raises an eyebrow, looking like he wants to reach out to him but retracts. Hyunjin is focused on the small fidget of his fingers and deludes himself into thinking it’s a sign that Seungmin wants to comfort him, but he knows he can’t. They don’t do that. They can’t. But then, Seungmin does that face he used to make, when he gets nervous.
It’s the last straw. With a storm in his chest and tears in his eyes, Hyunjin thinks ‘fuck it’, and storms forward, arms rushing to bring Seungmin to his body.

Or: Hyunjin and Seungmin are exes. They’re done. It’s over. It’s all old news. But… when Hyunjin’s girlfriend cheats on him, he ends up running into the absolute last person he needs: his ex-boyfriend. Surprisingly, he doesn’t feel bad about it.

All it takes is one order of Butterscotch Blast for Hyunjin to etch his dream-lines into the open air. Of course, he barely scratches over the surface of how he’ll get to his promised land, but his smile floats to the dewy clouds hanging over them as he speaks of his heartiest desires.
Seungmin thinks it’s nice. Their town isn’t built for dreamers, but Hyunjin retains them nevertheless. A bakery overlooking a busy street, he tells him. A bakery renowned for its duplicity, in presenting every newcomer with a mouthful of delight and a sleeve-full of heart. Here, every shop is just a shop, nothing strives to invent new standards or strike hearts in starkly-driven voyages.
