Adora is an Astrophysics PhD student who just can’t seem to write her dissertation. When the opportunity arises to work at the IceCube Neutrino Detector at the South Pole, she jumps at the chance, even though she’ll be stuck there for six months during the Antarctic Winter. When she arrives, she discovers that her research partner is her former roommate, former teammate, former best friend, former, well, everything, who she hasn’t seen since they graduated from college five years ago.

She thinks life is good but doesn't realize what she's missing. On the other hand, Catra has always known what she's missing. She's finally pulling her life together, has a family and band called The Horde, and is getting sober.
When the two meet again, it's not an idyllic fairy tale--it's a mess, and overwhelming, and incredible, but so, so confusing. And it's right. It's always been right.

"For the last four years, Catra’s routine had been the same.
Every day, she woke up just after dawn; left the comfort of her own bed to go prepare food for her, her husband, and whatever guests they might have; and checked the supply of ale in the cellar.
Then, she would make sure all the mugs and glasses were clean. Once people started rolling in, usually just after noon, the bar would be wiped down and the musicians she employed would be setting up. She would make idle conversation with the others and finish cleaning up until the first groups of men looking for a drink showed up with pockets that clinked and jingled with coins, and then the rest of the night would be spent cleaning mugs and pouring ale.
Catra had resigned herself to this life with a sort of detached acceptance.
Then, a Rebellion captain walked into her establishment, and she knew instantly that something was about to change."

Summary
Adora misses her best friend, but she's usually too busy with practice and studying to spend time with Catra. That is, until they start rooming together sophomore year and Adora starts feeling emotions she doesn't quite know how to identify...
Catra's accepted the fact that Adora has new friends and their friendship will never be the same again, but that doesn't change her crush. Maybe if she just finds someone to help her get over Adora, it will all be okay.
(Loosely based on that one reddit post where the guy is worried that he's homophobic because he doesn't like seeing his roommate with other men but it turns out he's just gay for his roommate.)
