Summary
“We have got to stop meeting like this,” Roman says, as the door shuts behind him.
Mencken’s at the sink, washing his hands. He smirks into the mirror, meeting Roman’s eyes. “In your dad’s bathroom?”
“Not Dad’s anymore,” Roman says, folding his arms. “My brother already bought the place.”

Summary
“I was thinking,” Gojo says, “you graduate in a month, and it’s better to have the higher pay, the higher clearance. And I know you can handle it, of course.” His hand lands firm on Nanami’s shoulder.
Gojo is an inch or two taller than him, a year older than him, and now he’s recommended Nanami for grade 1, the highest level anyone can expect to achieve unless they were born an exception to the rules, outside the hierarchy but also, automatically, at its top. Despite Gojo’s casual attitude and distaste for rigidity, Nanami suspects he actually likes the hierarchy; he enjoys keeping people a step below him, within reach but decidedly behind.
Nanami feels unmistakable resentment bubbling up. Gojo’s hand is still on his shoulder, and he’s smiling at him, so self-satisfied. Waiting for a ‘thank you.’

Summary
For someone who has made his living off believers in the occult, Reigen is a man with almost no superstitions. He doesn’t have any lucky or unlucky numbers; he doesn’t assign special value to any particular articles of clothing or trinkets. His view of the world is grounded in cold rationality.
When he meets an eleven year-old with psychic powers and is subsequently forced to expand that worldview a little, he allows himself one superstition.
Or: 5 times Reigen dodged consequences and 1 time he didn’t.

Summary
A small, dark part of Megumi is glad Gojo is taking this lightly. Apparently Yuji wasn’t all that special to him. The thought makes him feel guilty, but that emotion is preferable to the crush of grief and fear and regret that he feels over Yuji’s death. So he lets himself stew in it, as a distraction.
He’s sad that Yuji is dead, but Gojo’s not, and that is a relief.

Summary
Once Nanami commits to something, he does it. So, in spite of the confused looks around the table, he reaches for Gojo’s glass, batting his hand away, and downs it in a few gulps.
When he sets the empty glass down, Nanami says, “I was a salaryman. I can handle my liquor.”
Or, Nanami drinks for Gojo.

Summary
“You’re more useful than you realize,” Mencken says slowly, and—of all people—Roman thinks of Dad, of the time Dad praised him for making that deal with Mom. Good kid. He may never get that praise again. Roman swallows.
Mencken looks down, directly at Roman’s crotch area. He smiles slowly. Roman wants to dissolve into a thousand pieces, never be seen again.
“It isn’t…” Roman crosses his arms over his chest, makes himself smaller. His whole body’s on fire, primed to run. “I’m not—this isn’t—”
“What?” A bark-laugh from Mencken. “You scared, huh.”
An observation, not a question. Roman shrinks back into the wall, thinks about Turkey: the games he’d played with Laird and Karl, convinced they were going to die. I spy something that begins with M…

He’s almost forty. Why is this still happening. Once upon a time he’d been a teenager at military school, a kid in his father’s guest bedroom; both times, the other people had looked deep into Roman’s eyes, convinced him he could never tell anyone else. And he hasn’t.

Summary
Serizawa chews on his lip for a moment before he speaks. “I thi-”
“I said, it’s not here anymore,” Mob repeats, and something in his tone causes Reigen to look up at him in alarm. As he does, he finds his former student’s eyes have gone flat, mouth a thin line.
Reigen raises an eyebrow, exchanges a glance with Dimple, and says: “Yeah, Mob, I believe you.”
“... I was going to agree with Shigeo-kun,” Serizawa offers, polite and careful, but his eyes narrow. “I can’t feel it either.”

“I’d ruin your life,” Reigen mumbles into the soft white fabric on Mob’s shoulder, the sturdy warmth beneath it.
“I wouldn’t let you,” Mob says solemnly, pure conviction. He rubs a gentle circle on Reigen’s upper back, holding their bodies firmly chest to chest.

Summary
The day Nanami Kento quits his job, he comes home to find Gojo Satoru waiting on the stoop of his apartment building.

Bookmarker's Notes
It’s a little sickening how familiar it feels, how easy it is to slip back into the muscle memory. There’s even a part of him that’s relieved —that missed how uncomplicated it could be to fuck the strongest sorcerer in the jujutsu world. His thighs snap taut as he hauls Gojo forward by the hair, burying himself deep down his throat, and Gojo just takes it . If he couldn’t, he would have stopped him.
But with the freedom comes a weight Nanami can’t ignore. The castle he built for himself is crumbling. The life he made away from the jujutsu world has come crashing down, and the desperate grip he’s pulling Gojo forward with is a confession all in itself. Maybe he never truly left. Maybe he’s always wanted to go back. Maybe the part of his life where he made his money behind a desk and fucked people with care and caution was only ever a façade.
He was always meant to come crawling back to this.

Summary
The boy shifts on his feet. “The year is two thousand and eighteen? Common Era?”
Slowly, smile still plastic on his face, Suguru faces Satoru. This fucking dumbass. “Satoru,” he says, dangerous edge to his voice, “what did you do?”
Satoru makes some bastardization of a sound, half between a laugh and a cough. “...Whoops?”
“I,” Suguru grits, pinching two fingers together, “am this close to mass murder.” He’s joking. Probably.
///OR: Shortly before Getō would have massacred a village, he and Gojō are thrust eleven years forward into a would-have-been future that Getō is conspicuously absent from.

"It's a little scary, I guess. But I've known it's gonna happen for months. It's for the best, right? And I mean, Sensei is gonna be there, he's gonna do it, so... that's nice."
Do it? Do it. Ah. The execution.
There's a beat of silence. Somewhere in the mountainous expanse around them, a pair of birds exchange loud calls that echo distantly. The horizon bleeds gold and orange and crimson, reflecting its colors onto the shiny roof tiles. Shaded in the sunset, Itadori looks like a burning thing.
"Ah!" Itadori lets his other leg drop, rubbing the back of his head self consciously. His smile is bashful. "Sorry, that's a weird thing to say, huh?"
That there's comfort in the knowledge that Gojō will carry out his execution. That Gojō will be the one to do it. That he will be there. That it'll be him.
