Summary
Human names were an imported concept for the personifications of the Baltic tribes and their Finnic neighbours.
It was a concept that brought both comfort (a way for personhood, separate from their innate nature as dirt, blood and dreams), and dread (if you were no longer only your people – would you notice when they stopped being yours? would you notice when foreign blood claimed your land and you turned to them for their dreams and beliefs instead of your own people? how could you possibly notice the moment when you stopped being you – if you let yourself be called something static and oh so human.).
