Summary
“You’re supposed to be dead.” Is the first thing that comes out of Starscreams mouth after he barges into the hovel Megatronus calls a home.
Megatronus, in a move that only serves to aggravate Starscream even more, merely hums and swipes on the datapad he’s reading, while reclining in the rust-hazard Megatronus insists on calling a chair. “Is that supposed to be a threat?”
And Starscream –
Starscream pauses.
Because that was way to familiar, way too Megatronus for his liking.
And Megatronus – as previously established – was supposed to be dead.

Oh, great Terra Marianna – oh great Livonia – now the would be failed state of the United Baltic Duchy, now nothing but proof of what could be – a fair stature, an impeccable form and impeccable dress – playing second fiddle to the scrappy dressed states of Latvia and Estonia, their faces still stuck in the grimace of commoners.
Maria stared at the swaying pine trees and frowned at the lullaby the wind sang – it’s mouth unable to form words. The stench of rot permeated the air, the church bells and the stillwater of calm lakes formed a melody far too familiar and far too old for her now frayed nerves.
“You are the cobble stone walls of new, and I am the serene lakes of old,” a voice had whispered to her once upon a time, a warm exhale of breath against Maria’s chest.

Summary
Human names were an imported concept for the personifications of the Baltic tribes and their Finnic neighbours.
It was a concept that brought both comfort (a way for personhood, separate from their innate nature as dirt, blood and dreams), and dread (if you were no longer only your people – would you notice when they stopped being yours? would you notice when foreign blood claimed your land and you turned to them for their dreams and beliefs instead of your own people? how could you possibly notice the moment when you stopped being you – if you let yourself be called something static and oh so human.).
