"I'll see you at dinner! Lambad’s, 6:00. Don't be late!”
Kaveh is not there when Alhaitham arrives at Lambad's Tavern at 5:59 sharp.
Alhaitham sits in their usual booth alone until the tavern closes, drawing concerned and pitied whispers from patrons and wait staff alike. It's clear that, despite his fame and status, their Acting Grand Sage has been stood up by whoever was supposed to be joining him for dinner and drinks.
Kaveh is not in his room either when Alhaitham returns home, confused and more than a little annoyed at being left alone for an evening meant to be shared.
The moon is high in the sky, Sumeru City is sleeping peacefully, and yet there is still no Kaveh.

That is why, when the Matra informed him of his roommate's failure to appear at a conference that morning, Alhaitham knew right away that it was no ordinary occurrence.

Summary
Alhaitham has been cursed. The curse can only be broken by a kiss from someone who truly loves him. According to Alhaitham, such a person does not exist, so he prepares for the inevitable and keeps quiet about the cure.
Kaveh can do nothing but watch as Alhaitham’s condition deteriorates. He helps to take care of him as things progress, but he still feels useless. If only there were something he could do…
“You’re so warm,” Kaveh utters. He brings his hand up to touch his cheek.
“Mm,” Alhaitham hums, leaning into the touch.
Kaveh keeps his hand where it is and gives him a sad smile. “You only get like this when you’re sick or drunk.”
“Pathetic?”
Kaveh shakes his head. “Affectionate. It’s… kind of nice, to be honest.” He laughs. “To tell you the truth, I used to try to get you drunk just to see you like this.”
If his cheeks weren’t already burning, he might blush. “Really.”
“Your attitude is easier to handle when you’re all clingy,” Kaveh admits.
"Well, I guess you get to see it one last time,” Alhaitham says.
Kaveh’s expression sobers. “…I guess so.”

Summary
Alhaitham is hit by a magical curse that leaves him vulnerable and bereft of his memories. Naturally, he decides not to tell the kind blond man who is definitely his partner about that last part.
Kaveh has his hands full taking care of Alhaitham. Alhaitham is acting strangely, and he seems convinced that they’re in a relationship. Kaveh doesn't know how he's going to get out of this with his heart intact.
“I don’t remember anything about you,” Alhaitham admits. “Or him,” he nods at Cyno. “Or even my partner,” he says, gesturing at Kaveh.
Kaveh chokes on air. Partner?
“Ah. Was that supposed to be a secret?”
“We’re roommates!” Kaveh splutters.
“Right. ‘Roommates,’” Alhaitham says, with a smirk.
Lesser Lord Kusanali, have mercy.
