Summary
Severus Snape would never go out of his way to help Remus Lupin, and he would never, ever be caught dead trying to cuddle up to him — at least, not if he can avoid it. After a moment of weakness and a panicked split-second decision, a classic(?) comedy of errors ensues.
Set kind of loosely in OotP times but not really anchored in canon.
If you don’t enjoy the phrase “vomit-encrusted appendage” you might want to give this one a miss. This is apparently my version of fluff! Happy Anti-Valentine’s Day!

Summary
Severus cleared his throat again. Merlin, this was difficult. “Potter—” he began quietly, but cut himself off when the boy startled. Potter spun around to face Severus, and that’s when he noticed it. The blood.
It was like a switch, the way all awkwardness traded itself for concern. “What happened?” he asked sharply, eyes zeroing in on the hand that, now not held to Potter’s chest, was dripping blood onto the floor.
What if, instead of fighting Dementors, Harry spent the summer before Fifth Year writing to the nameless, faceless man that he found in a photograph of his mother?

Summary
Severus was plating the eggs when it dawned on him—quite suddenly and enough to make him freeze, that Remus Lupin, the man he’d been living with for six months now after he’d saved Severus from the unhinged serpentine jaw of death during the Battle for Hogwarts, after he’d worked out the truth of what really happened to Dumbledore before anyone else had and, in confronting Severus when he’d been headmaster, kissed him and promised he would not let Severus die—believed Severus asexual.
Severus blinked at the eggs. They stared back at him, eyeless and indifferent, steaming silently in the quiet kitchen and utterly oblivious to the psychological crisis they had just instigated. He set the pan aside, the cast iron clinking against the countertop, and leaned forward on his elbows. He closed his eyes and massaged his temples.
How did this happen? Severus thought, and a barrage of remembered deflections when Remus had attempted to touch him over the past six months answered the call.
Ah. Right.

The baby came. During the witching hour, because of course he would. Toby noticed me glancing toward the clock as the midwife tidied up. Asked if the boy was unfashionably early, all smiling. He’s so proud. Gran used to say nothing pleased men more than proof they’re men, and she was right. Never seen Toby smile quite like this, nor seen anything near it since our wedding neither. About the clock, I didn’t know how to answer him, so I didn’t. Must’ve thought me worn out, I suppose. He told me to sleep and he’d wake me when the baby needed to eat.
So I slept. Suppose he didn’t have to wonder why I kept so quiet, for once. I never know what to say when he gets to asking about all I can’t answer.
His name is Severus. Toby doesn’t care for it. Were I cleverer, neither would I. Should name him William or Peter or Thomas or Henry or James, something proper and regular.
Then were I cleverer, I wouldn’t be here to begin with.

“That’s it?” Remus said, somewhat incredulously, as the light faded away. He’d expected more, somehow.
Severus nodded, lifting his hand to study the ring on his finger. “Congratulations, against all expectations, you succeeded in participating in the simplest of rituals.”
Remus felt a twinge of annoyance at his words, but it was overlaid confusingly with a sense of satisfaction. He frowned, trying to puzzle out why he would feel satisfied at Severus’s insult.
An expression of concern crossed Severus’s face, and he lowered his hand. He looked at Remus, his brows drawn together. Then his eyes widened, and surprise flooded Remus. It quickly turned to shocked anger.
“Albus, we may have a problem,” Severus growled.
