Summary
Hitoshi was on the roof of his slowly crumbling apartment building, having finished his homework hours ago, but staying to watch the last light of dusk sink beneath a steadily darkening horizon. He spent most of his childhood on rooftops, looking up and looking down. Tonight was no different. Recently, a select few were spent with company, with meeting new acquaintances. With a goddamn crow who was better company than most humans he'd met.
Tonight, Hitoshi was met with a dread-inducing, familiar yelling. He didn't know it yet, but this night would completely change his life because for the first time ever, Hitoshi called for help.

“Midoriya said I might find you up here.”
Hitoshi hadn’t heard the silent footsteps from afar, but he had heard Todoroki's breathing. It was shallow, purposely so.
Hitoshi wouldn’t pretend he didn’t know exactly what that meant. He wouldn’t pretend he never learned how to cease any noise from footfalls or which floorboards of his house creaked the loudest. Home was never an easy place -- never safe, never comforting. Home was a place to keep one’s guard up, to watch one’s back until behind the refuge of a closed and locked door.
Hitoshi learned how to hide his flinches. How to taper down fear and endure unnecessary pain at the hands of someone who was supposed to love him.
He saw that same dreadful knowledge in Todoroki.

Summary
Shinsou Hitoshi hadn't had a great life. If he took an average, he was sure it would rank towards "Hellish" and "Shitty" rather than "Wonderful" and "Fulfilling". His life really only started to get good recently.
Just because things got better didn’t mean that Hitoshi never felt sad though.
One good thing about living in the dorms: he didn't have to listen to his foster's screaming every night. One cursed thing about living in the dorms: he was never really alone. Even up on the fucking roof when he just wanted to feel solemn in silence.
He really needed to stop running into people up here, didn't he?

Why was it, Shinsou thought as his lungs burned in his chest and his feet skid on the ground as he turned a sharp corner, that even when things got better, they also got so much worse?
Hitoshi's life had taken an impossible turn for the better lately -- drastically so. Unbelievably so. He wasn't sure he could trust the fickle solidity he found in his recent companions, but that didn't mean he wouldn't try. Things had been getting better.
Except for the fact that three of his notoriously cruel classmates followed him outside school today and were currently chasing him down the back alleys of their crime-haunted city. He thought he could lose them on the roof, he really did.
When a pro hero shows up to save the day, he almost wishes one hadn't. There's no way Hitoshi could get out of this unscathed or in the clear. Heroes didn't trust Hitoshi, not with a quirk like his. Why would today be any different?

Summary
Shinsou Hitoshi finds reprieve on roof tops. He doesn't know why, but something about being up so high makes him feel safer, like he's on another plane of reality where only he exists. Like nothing can touch him from below.
He should probably find a different spot to think though. People keep catching him up here and it's starting to get annoying.
Except, maybe it's not. Maybe he's beginning to prefer the company, feeling like part of a whole rather than an isolated figure squinting in the dark and trying to find something he is blind to. Maybe he's beginning to find comfort in companionship.
He's trying to anyway.

Summary
Tim doesn't sleep much, and as a result he hallucinates sometimes. He keeps hallucinating a pair of green eyes in the dark.
At the same time he struggles with his place in the fractured batfamily, and tries chasing the Red Hood, who surely is completely unrelated to these green eyes he keeps seeing... right?cue kidnappings, bad decisions, and a whole lot of food!
a bit angsty, but with a happy ending because i REFUSE to write sad ones. title is from "people got a lotta nerve" by neko case :)
