Summary
They aren’t his family, not in the traditional sense. But the idea that they might be, that they could be, unsettles him more than he wants to admit. It’s the same quiet dread that hit him when Collins said he had helped raise Amy. He doesn’t know why exactly. Maybe because imagining them as a family implies imagining him and Jack as something. And that’s just absurd, right?
Or: Robby has been a quiet constant in the lives of Abbot and his daughter, filling a space that was never clearly named. As they drift into their fifties, he begins to recognize that his feelings for Jack may have deepened into something real and perhaps impossible. Now he’s left wondering if this almost-family could ever truly be his.

Summary
It’s the spring of ‘97 when Michael Robinavitch is dragged into a gay bar for the very first time.
When he meets Jack Abbot there, the two of them are on the cusp of radically different futures: Robby is about to begin his residency, and Jack is leaving for the army. They know better than to get attached - know the timing is wrong, the goodbye inevitable - but something tender takes root anyway. Through every deployment, Jack thinks of Robby more than he ought to; through every failed relationship, Robby wonders about what might've been.
Years later, when their paths cross again at PTMC, the past resurfaces — and though they’re older, more jaded, and scarred in different ways, they find themselves pulled towards everything they left unfinished.

Summary
Robby sighed, and shook his head, hands scrubbing at his beard. “A wiser man would say that we’re using casual intimacy to hide from the emotional turmoil we should be working out in therapy,” Robby called out as Jack walked out the door.
The other man barked out a laugh. "Yeah, and when you find him, tell him I said hi."
(Or: Robby can't sleep, Jack decides to help. It goes exactly as well as you'd expect.)

10 months. That's how much time passes between the moment Robby walks away from the hospital after Pittfest and him walking into work on the 4th July. A lot happens in those 10 months: there are highs and lows, and through it all, Robby has a lot to figure out about himself, with Jack's help, of course.
This fic is complete, and each chapter will be posted every few days.

Summary
The bullet misses Dr Jack Abbot’s vest by inches. It was just supposed to be another casual mission aiding the SWAT team as their physician. How did it go so wrong? He's been in Trauma 1 many times but never like this, never as the man lying bleeding on the bed.
When Robby sees that it's him who is wheeled in on the gurney, it takes all his strength to keep it together, even as his chest feels like it has been cracked wide open.

Summary
Santos leaned her elbows on the counter and lowered her voice. “We’re thinking of running a small fundraiser.”
Dana’s eyebrows lifted. “For?”
“The auction,” Santos said. “To bid on Dr. Abbot.”
Dana studied them for a moment. “And why would you do that?”
“It’s for Dr. Robby.”
Or, the annual PTMC Charity Auction is coming up and the charming Dr. Jack Abbot is up for grabs. Santos has a plan to get him for Dr. Robby and stir up a little chaos in the process.

Summary
Robby’s brilliant and beautiful brain had always been a wonder for Jack to pick apart. Over the years, Jack had figured out how to react to various mental shutdowns and considered himself an expert in it.
However, physical trauma turned out to be uncharted territory. Apparently, when Robby got bonked on the head, his brain simply decided to go Husband? What husband?
Jack found it distressingly comical. Until he learned why.
*The stories make sense wherever you start in the series. But I highly recommend reading them in order for the best continuity ;)

Summary
[He swallowed again, raising the phone to his ear, squeezing his eyes tight.
It only rang twice before his dad picked up. “Hey, kiddo.”
Even at fifty-four years old, Robby was still his kiddo. Robby choked on a sob. “Hey, abba.”
“Whoa, you okay?”
Robby swallowed, hating how a whimper slipped out. “No. No, I’m not okay. Can you come get me?” He honestly did not trust himself enough to drive at the moment. Not over the bridge and at least half an hour away, probably more with traffic.
“Yeah, of course. Where are you?” There was shuffling on the other end of the line.
Except Robby didn’t know how to answer. He was at the park, but he didn’t want to wait half an hour there for his dad to pick him up. He also wanted a shower and to change. To get the awful day off of him. But he also was afraid to walk home. Was afraid he’d do something dumb.
“Can you pick me up at my apartment? But—but stay on the line?” That would keep him accountable. He couldn’t let something happen to himself if his dad was listening.
“Yeah, kiddo. Half an hour.”]

Summary
Robby frowned and looked at Jack. "Is it me or are you now off Monday through Thursday?"
"Yeah, I figure we can drive out Tuesday morning and come back in time for my shift Friday night."
Robby's eyebrows rose in surprise. "Did someone invite you to the cabin I rented?" Jack tilted his head and just looked at Robby, silent and expectant. After a long moment, Robby huffed a resigned laugh, like he wondered why he even bothered protesting. "Jack, would you like to come hiking with me?"

Summary
"Congrats again on the award; you deserve it." And with that, she disappeared into the crowd.
Probably off to go plan how to hit on Jack. Jack, who this random doctor wanted to have sex with. Here. At the conference.
Intellectually, Robby knew that was what people did at these things. Drunken hookups at conferences were common, though often denied, if not regretted. Robby had never partaken because that was not his speed, but Jack—
Well, Jack had no such qualms. And at an ED medical conference, he was basically a rockstar. He could probably have anyone he wanted.
