    May died in the aftermath of a battle. The Avengers don't notice the collateral damage they leave behind. Peter is alone, balancing bills, jobs and school while he spends sleepless nights as Spider-Man, a vigilante that is growing more reckless trying to save everyone as he slowly reaches his breaking point. Tony Stark notices the erratic and distant behavior of the once bright-eyed vigilante. He decides to track him down, starting with the first lead he has: Peter Parker, the secretive Daily Bugle photographer.

    Peter's hand snapped out and closed around the criminal's wrist before the drugs in his fist ever cleared his pocket, and in the exact same motion, without so much as turning to look, his other hand shot up and caught Frank's bullet out of the air, fingers folding around it like it was a baseball lobbed underhand. He tucked it into his belt pouch without breaking eye contact with the guy still frozen under his grip, and let out a short breath through his nose that was less relief than mild annoyance.
    Or,
    Frank Castle switched to mercy bullets around Spider-Man weeks ago and only Peter knows. So when Yelena and John Walker watch him catch one out of midair with his bare hand and look mildly annoyed instead of terrified, they have no idea what they actually just witnessed.

    “This is you, isn’t it?” Tony held it out. Peter reached out, his hands shaking as he took it from him.

    It was the picture they took at Stark Industries. They needed proof for May that he was working as an intern there, so Tony had a certificate made. It was Peter’s idea to give each other bunny ears, but Tony was the one who held the certificate upside-down. They’d barely known each other then, but they’d both laughed when they realized his mistake.

    A couple of tears ran down his cheeks as Peter gripped the frame. “Yeah,” he choked out. “That’s— That’s me.”

    Peter knew Tony had the photo. He kept it in his lab. Once the spell was set and done, he figured Tony would’ve thrown it out. Why would he hang onto a picture of someone he didn’t recognize?

    Peter never told him, but knowing it was there made him feel so important. He should’ve told him.

    “You’ve shivering,” Tony commented, just like Pepper had. His anger had turned into a shade of worry and concern. With a small shake of his head, he moved out of the way. “Get in here.”
