Kaveh can’t dictate when the line blurs between them professionally—It’s just that Alhaitham made himself so different and remarkable that every space he lingered to, Kaveh ought to stare. To seek his presence.
Alhaitham never held back spoiling him, ensuring he was taken care of and his needs were prioritized but he also never entertained the idea of officially deepening their relationship, if it can be called that. They have mutual understanding, exclusive to each other but otherwise not officially together. It’s absurd whatever set up they have but Kaveh can’t bring himself to back out.

Alhaitham draped his coat around Kaveh and watched him snuggle into the warmth. He turns to Tighnari and Cyno. “While drunk.”
Tighnari made a noise while Cyno, “Do you wish he wasn’t when he kissed you?”
The answer should’ve been obvious and Alhaitham was not the one to lie to save himself (and begs the reason why he hasn’t told Kaveh the words that could either change the tides of their mending relationship, for better or worse)
“Yes.”
Alhaitham discover a fanfiction: proceeds to read it, get invested, offers a feedback and eventually demands for it to be published (with a compensation that he will receive a copy)

Alhaitham pauses from where he’s tucking the paper in his pocket with a cheerful gleam. He ponders an answer, Kaveh is many things and lovely is just one of them, alluring as well as a natural head turner. “Who knows, senior, maybe he had a bad eye sight.”
“Haitham!”
Kaveh received a letter and Alhaitham was convinced it was threat.

“I think,” Alhaitham inhales very, very slowly, “besides wanting to lock you out and call every emergency number I can think of, I desperately want to travel back in time when the universe didn’t hate me and you didn’t break into my house with your dirty shoes looking like a psych-ward escapee,"
“...Okay,” Kaveh sucks in a breath, stretches out a smile, “I’ll rephrase,” And then — “What are your thoughts on time travellers?”
Alhaitham squints at him.
Or: Time traveller Kaveh, his broken time machine and Alhaitham take on Wanting. (It somehow takes more than that to talk—but nothing is going anywhere.)

Three years since the start of the zombie apocalypse, and Sumeru Base has weathered zombie swarms, supply shortages, the fall of public order, tyrannical leaders, and revolts.
Normally Alhaitham would have been content to stay out of all these troublesome matters, but normally there would be a certain soft hearted empath by his side more than willing to deal with them instead.
Meanwhile, Kaveh is stranded away from all he holds dear and familiar, spiraling downwards in the face of a world gone mad.Alternatively: Kaveh discovers what he means to Alhaitham after Alhaitham finally finds him and brings him home.

Summary
The footsteps stopped, and a figure took shape by the doorframe. But instead of the Alhaitham he’d gotten used to, someone else stared back at him.
Fluffy grey hair. Teal-orange eyes set into a familiar face. An aura of inextinguishable confidence, maybe even cockiness. Kaveh would never not recognize Alhaitham, but this Alhaitham was different.
He was shorter. Thinner. Wearing an Akademiya uniform that he certainly hadn’t touched in years. His expression was one of surprise—widened innocent eyes and a slacked jaw. The final kick was a pair of puffed-out, pinchable, sunkissed cheeks that Kaveh missed oh-so-dearly.
“Kaveh?” he called breathily.
After another bad fight with Alhaitham, Kaveh reminisces on their younger days and wishes he could go back to the past to fix their relationship.
Little did he know the past would be coming to him instead.
