Summary
You’ve been on the surface for three months by now. Three months, a week, and two days. You should be able to take everything you’ve bought out of the bags, remove the plastic and sort it out for the next day. You need to pack your bag. You need to make dinner. You need to make tomorrow’s lunch. You need to lay out an outfit for the next morning that doesn’t scream ‘I’ve never had this much in my life and I have no idea what to do with it’.
Camouflage is an inherent biological defense mechanism, vital for survival. The proper colours can turn you into anything you need to escape detection. The brown-grey of a cliff overhang. The muddy green of a kelp patch. Something to keep you safe while you sleep. You want to bury yourself in the sandy floor of the shallows and stay there, low and quiet, where you’ll become another inanimate fixture of the sea.

Summary
Sometimes a rough start can still have a happy ending. You just have to be willing to see it through to the end. Agent 8 has had a very rough beginning, but maybe with a little help her happy ending can come true.

Also some mild language, and some kinda moody themes. Not super dark but hot dang they need to cheer up.

Fingers fist the woolly material, nails piercing the thick material with how tightly he holds it. It’s soft and fuzzy, and pale pink, like a certain fruit that haunts his dreams. He wants to rip it off his person right this instant. Wants to shove it under the bed or hide away somewhere where he won’t be able to easily get to. He wants – no, needs to take it off.
Pulling at the collar, Ken inhales, the wool tickling his nose as the scent of his one and only, single friend fills him up to near bursting.
God dammit.

This is stupid! Why is she being so weird about some random smell? And why does it make her want to- to- do something!? Why is her brain being so weird? And why is she thinking of Okarun of all people?
She knows this isn’t what he smells like, not that his smell should matter to her anyway. But for the short time they’ve gotten to know each other, she’s only smelled the neutral scent of paper and plain deodorant. The most noteworthy spark of something vaguely burning whenever he’d get mad or moody, but that for expected for betas, or any of the dynamics. Despite having the plainest scents, there was still something unique to each person, but Okarun was as plain even for a beta. Neutral. Muted. Nothing warranting such a reaction from her, not from someone’s scent that should have no real impression on her, or anyone, really.
