Summary
Mo Ran is no less than shocked when Olympia-gold medalist Chu Wanning abruptly ends his figure skating career at age 29, right in front of him, just another slap to the face when Mo Ran has just delivered the worst performance of a lifetime and came in last at the Grand Prix. Afterwards, Mo Ran returns to his adoptive parents' rink, not really knowing whether to continue the sport himself - after all, his main goal was chasing Chu Wanning down so he could finally get him to acknowledge him after all this time. However, when he comes home from teaching some kids basic skating skills, he barges into their living room containing the usual people (Xue Zhengyong and Wang Chuqing) and the usual creatures (Xue Meng and Veggiebun) and... Chu Wanning, for some reason.

Summary
These are MXTX's early works from when she was still a student. They were published in 2013-2014 in a magazine called “Super Nice”《超好看》. She wrote a total of five short stories, each around a few thousand words. All bearing elements of drama, horror, death, and complex character relationships that you can find later in her novels. These short stories are not particularly well-known and have never been translated before.
Someone compiled these shorts together in a book on JJWXC, and we've decided to translate them together.The Chinese compilation can be found in the Notes.

His cheek bumps into his forehead, and Xie Lian squeezes him gently, along with the tingle of warmth that spreads through him at the contact. With his fingers tracing the swirled, thin embroidery of a dragon along the silk of Hua Cheng's robe, he asks, still in a hushed voice, "Will you tell me about your mother?"
Hua Cheng stills under his hand, but only for a moment. His head shifts against his temple, and Xie Lian watches clawed fingers reach for the blue tassels hanging tied around his waist. He simply holds the flared ends, running his thumb over the clumped strings and threading them through his knuckles as he thinks. Xie Lian waits patiently, even through this sudden tension in the air and against the swirling in his gut.

Chu Wanning wants to save others, even if he can’t save himself. But that doesn’t mean others don’t want to save him. His shizun Mo Ran, for example, who found him half-frozen in the snow when he fled from the people he thought wanted to save others but were lying all along. Mo Ran, his mom, and the rest of Sisheng Peak give Chu Wanning a fire and a light and a home, and he thinks he might be able to save himself after all.
And for these people, he’d do anything. Even if it means abandoning that very hope for salvation.
(Even if it means forgetting the sword riding lessons and the clam chowder and even why he can’t bear to take off that red pendant clasped so tightly around his neck.)

Cait hums, steps in and takes the inside of the dilapidated shrine in. “Very… dank,” She comments idly, walking up to the altar and running a finger along the table. She lifts her finger up, inspects it carefully, then blows the dust off of it carelessly. She looks over her shoulder towards Vi, “I suppose you don’t have anything to light matches with?”
“Do you?” Vi responds in lieu of an answer, stepping closer to Caitlyn. Caitlyn, in turn, smirks– she unlatches her satchel, digs around, and pulls out a match. Vi watches her curiously, intently, as she reaches down and proceeds to strike the match on her pants. It lights effortlessly, a faint flame quivering inside the still shrine. Caitlyn barely spares her a glance as she sets about lighting the candles, long forgotten and full of small dust bunnies.
Well. Wasn’t that attractive.
