“It’d be funnier if we didn’t have to investigate fucking bird murder now,” Fox mutters. He can’t believe he chugged his caf for this. The burn on his tongue still stings.
“Burder,” Hound says under his breath. Then, “Wait. You’re not really going to investigate it, are you?”
Fox stops. Hound does, too, shifting his weight, uneasy, like he senses he’s stepped into a trap. “Of course I’m going to fucking investigate it. It’s my job.”
“But. It’s a duck.”
“Wrong. It’s the Chancellor’s duck. And that makes it our problem.”
“Our?” Hound asks weakly.

From a chance meeting in the mines of Bandomeer to a rather unconventional second proposal, Obi-Wan and Jango’s relationship remains a constant throughout both their lives. Alongside that, of course, is the relationship that springs up between a Senator and a Jedi, long after the invasion that brought them together. And, really, who would have expected Padmé and Jango to get on as well as they did?
“Heard you used to be Queen,” was the first thing Jango said to her, like an asshole. Padmé’s eyes narrowed. Then, she smiled, the expression painstakingly polite in a way that did nothing at all to hide the utter poison in her eyes.
“Elek, Mand’alor’ad dar’Mand’alor,” she returned, no doubt fumbling her pronunciation but undoubtedly getting her meaning across. She’d give as good as she got.
She had expected Jango to get angry—it would only be fair, after what she’d said, what she’d deliberately and very purposefully said, with pre-meditation—but instead, he cracked a grin.
“Well met, Amidala”

Summary
Anakin is so young – so painfully, cruelly young. He cannot be older than nineteen, the age of his own son who has of late occupied so much of Obi-Wan’s reluctant hope. The age he was when –
When everything fell apart.
Yes. Obi-Wan looks down to assure himself that he is wearing Jedi robes, not Republic armor. If his – memory? Can it be called memory if it refers to a time that has not yet come to pass? – serves him right, this is before the beginning of the Clone Wars. Before the cracks in the Republic widened into a chasm and dragged the rest of the Jedi down into nothingness.
Not nothingness, Obi-Wan reminds himself. There is no death, there is the Force.
He fights down a hysterical laugh. All his training, and still he never expected this tenet of the Code to be quite so literal.
