There is a tradition in the kingdom of Bakuha: every time the heir to the throne came of age every eligible bachelor or bachelorette in the kingdom and neighboring kingdoms were given the opportunity to come to the castle and present themselves for marriage. Many people dreamed of being the lucky person chosen when the time arrived, but the process was not as simple as it seemed. Some people never reached the prince or princess before they were forced out of eligibility.
Ochako worked for the seamstress in town and had heard all of these things multiple times, enduring the overly critical and belittling speeches from the young ladies born in more prestigious households than hers. The decision had been made for her for years. She would go to the castle when the prince turned eighteen and endure whatever trials they had in store for her. She would elevate her family’s social class even if it meant losing the ability to marry for love. She’d already made herself a dress and had been observing the way the lords and ladies behaved for years.
She’d make it happen. That was her only option.

Summary
Uraraka Ochako was NOT having an affair with the surly captain of her personal royal guard, Kat. Despite what Monoma may whisper over a steaming cup of tea. Just because he was handsome and skilled and always present, like her shadow, did not mean she was infatuated or in love. However, her parents begin to pressure her to take a consort, and everything changes.
She is courted by a young prince that she quickly grows to be friends with and Kat seems to become grumpier. Things are not quite what they seem and Ochako’s feelings regarding her relationship with Kat seem to explode. The last thing she needed to add to all this, was the fact that her magic, which she had kept hidden, was the only key to truly end a war that had ‘ended’ four centuries prior.
“You miss it,” Toga sighed. “Don’t you?”
The sickly yellow gaze of the vampire bore through her royal guard.
“The freedom of it, the power, almost bottomless magic.”
Ochako’s eyes darted to Kat.
“How long has it been?” Toga smiled, wide and toothy her fangs on display.
“Prince of Barbarians.”

Katsuki passed her, ascending to the center throne. “Well ain’t that in both our fucking favors,” he agreed. He spun on his heel and plopped down in the seat, somehow making himself even more intimidating with the least regal posture she had ever seen; slouched; with legs splayed wide and cheek rested upon his fist.
His eyes raged with fire.
“I am Bakugou Katsuki,” he announced, “Prince of Draconia. Several decades ago, your people stole the Dragon Heart Stone from us,” he accused. “I want it back.”
Ochako felt faint.
“No,” he stroked his thick fingers over the head of the dragon that made up the armrest. “I will take it back.”
Ochako didn’t like the way he was looking at her.
“And you are going to help me.”
