Summary
Ed does not dream. He doesn't wake in the night, doesn't hear or see the shifting around him. And he never, never dreams.
Until one day, he does.
Ed lives in the mansion, where the wind always whispers and the sea always waits. As things begin to change around him, he has to hold onto the unshakeable truths: his room is safe. The skies are empty. Belongings disappear in the night. And he has always lived in the mansion.
Or has he?

Summary
Ed's minding his business when the new neighbor's kid comes around holding a human puppet. It's creepy as hell, but as soon as the kid's father rounds the corner, Ed doesn't mind.
ETA: Podfic available here from Kninjaknitter my darling dearest
“Hello,” says the strangest voice Ed’s ever heard, jolting him out of his reverie, sending his heart speeding into chaos. He opens his eyes and he’s staring straight at a stuffed animal in the shape of a human person. It is bald with a tiny hat and too-big eyes and it wears a blue shirt and a name tag that says Jeffy in the sort of scrawl normally reserved for words written in blood.
A puppet, he realizes several seconds beyond when it would have been appropriate to respond.

Summary
If he’s honest, Zaddy is just the sexy tip of the sexy iceberg. An iceberg shaped like a dick, or like… Ed doesn’t know, what else is sexy… Stede chopping a log with an axe. All sweaty (icebergs are wet) and bulging (icebergs… bulge out of the water) and red (maybe he’s losing the plot, here). All this to say, maybe he was joking at first, but it has become dire straits. He’s choking back words, he’s mumbling and stuttering and tripping over sentences. Stede has yet to say anything about it; maybe he thinks this is just a cute quirk of Ed’s that he had yet to notice.

Summary
Ed stares down at his hands wrapped around the edge of the examination table, a spider and a snake smiling up at him, and ponders how he got here.
Completely objectively, Stede is a little fucked up about sex. Ed loves him, would never judge him for any of his ideas. Even if some of them are a little silly at times. And, fuck, Ed is fucked up about sex. He doesn’t know how to level his past with his current attitudes when it comes to sex. Wanting to get hurt, wanting to be hurt. He’s never figured out how to rationalize it. Especially when it comes to sex with Stede, who should by all accounts be soft and gentle in their bedroom. Stede, who is a little fucked up about sex.

Summary
“Supposedly,” Ed mutters, voice dredged in scorn so thick that if the Swede were around to hear it he'd likely be a snivelling mess, “It's more cost effective and easier to transport if we build it ourselves. Apparently so easy that even Swedish children can do it. Oh, don't worry!” he adds, with a derisive, mad little laugh. “He left instructions!”
Ed flicks at the parchment with the back of his hand, and, curiously, Stede opens it to find…
The instructions.
“...He can't write,” Stede says, realisation dawning.
“He can't write.”
(OR: The Swede invents flat pack furniture. Ed isn’t used to failure. Stede is. They get through these trying times together, and maybe have a little sex about it. Heavy on humour, heavy on Big Feelings~)

Summary
It was a mistake, wasn’t it, because when Stede pulled away to look into his eyes Ed felt like the center of his universe was shifting to concentrate its entire fucking attention on the man who was watching his every move with the most precise look and his head curiously tilted. He remembers all of it, standing in the hidden alley in the Republic of Pirates, as if there is infinite space across his rib cage to tattoo every fucking detail of the last night on it and he's destined to carry these memories on himself through each passing second of the day.
OR
Ed leaves Stede after claiming their first time was a mistake and then tries to convince himself it really was (he fails miserably).

Summary
“Let me take care of you tonight.”
His exhaustion was starting to catch up to him now; he could feel it in the way his limbs seemed to grow more leaden as the sun retreated, the way his frenetic thoughts had settled into a low buzz of fatigue, the way Stede’s low, soft words ran through him like water rather than fire—soothing him where they would usually set him ablaze.
Even if he had the energy in him to do so, he could never have refused such a thing. Not from Stede. Not ever again.

Summary
just a lil post S2E5 ditty about whims and bells and, well,
Stede realizes dimly that Ed’s hands are moving ceaselessly on his head. The frenetic jangling is nonstop, and Stede thinks of folklore, the healing divinity of bells. Thinks of the bells chasing away spirits, storms, disasters, his own made of shame and fear, and Ed’s made of much darker stuff. He works harder because Ed needs him, because this is what he has to offer, his mouth and his heart and his resolve, his unmitigated determination to bring Ed back from the brink, bell ringing a symphony as Ed’s soul is called back screaming to life.

“I think you’re my best friend,” Stede says, wide eyed and serious, and that’s not—that’s not the phrase Ed was bracing himself for. “Maybe the best one I’ve ever had. You know that, right? I just needed you to know that. Thought it was important that you knew that.”

Summary
Stede snores. He sprawls. He kicks off and tugs back the covers at least five times a night. He mumbles in his sleep and acts out half of his dreams with unparalleled gusto. Ed often wakes up in the morning on the edge of the bed, with a knee digging into his stomach, a freckled arm thrown across his chest, and Stede’s mouth slack against his shoulder, leaving a damp patch where he breathes.
Except on Sundays.

Summary
A flicker of lightning steals Ed’s answer right from under his tongue, followed only a few moments later by a long roll of thunder.
“Storm,” Ed says, tilting his head towards the small window. “They look great from here.”
“You hiked out here to watch the storm?”
Ed nods cautiously, unsure of Stede’s tone.
Stede turns to look out over the forest, mug gripped in both hands.
“How wonderful,” he breathes.

Summary
“Oh, Ed. What are we going to do with you?” Evelyn propped her elbow on the table and her face on her hand. Her earrings were bright green, peridot maybe, and they looked incredible, glimmering like spring. Ed never had a sister.
“Put me in a bag and shake me up? That’s what my mum used to say.” She’d never actually done it though. Maybe she should’ve, might’ve shook something loose. Done them both some good.
Ed is possibly having a small midlife crisis. He's dealing with it pretty well, until he meets this blond guy outside the library.

Summary
“Thank you, by the way,” Stede adds, even though his heart is sort of in his throat about it. It’s not that he thinks it was wrong of Ed to punch the guy, or that he’s not grateful to be defended so fiercely. He loves when Ed gets all huffy and protective. It just feels a little different when your best friend punches a man into the appetizer table for insulting you and you also know you’ve been in love with him for thirty years. (The best friend, not the appetizer man.)
It’s also hard not to feel just a little guilty about the whole thing when you’re on your knees in the bathroom with a first aid kit spilled around you, watching that best friend’s face pinch up in an attempt not to wince when you first take his hand in yours.

Summary
It was Chauncey, Stede thinks. He led me out to the woods and said all these things about how I was a plague to my family, to you, and I shouldn’t have believed him, but I did, and then he shot himself and I was just running, I was halfway to my old estate before I realized and then I didn’t stop, I’m so sorry, Ed, I’m so sorry....
It’s the truth, and suddenly Stede would rather have Ed run him through than have to say it aloud. The idea of seeing Ed’s reaction to how weak he was, how frightened and helpless and wrong, is unbearable. Anyway, it’s Stede’s fault for running off, not Chauncey’s, so he can just...not mention him.
