Jean wakes up.
Or maybe he’s still dreaming. There’s someone cackling in his ear. His head is pounding like nobody’s business. Maybe he died and went to hell.
He opens his eyes. Scratch that, he definitely died and went to hell. The lights are burning red, and he squeezes his eyes shut again, but not before he gets a glimpse of Reiner sprawled out on the floor beside him.
Jean slowly squints his eyes back open.

Jean has always had a tough time getting a read on Ymir. She’s bitchy, but so is Jean. Ymir, though, is just bitchy enough to not have anyone give her shit, but not enough of a bitch to gain real enemies. Jean has always had trouble riding that line.
Still, though, Ymir’s realist attitude lines up with Jean’s. They have a certain sort of implicit camaraderie, Jean always thought, borne from rolling their eyes in tandem at idealistic idiots. He’s often thought of them as two of a kind.
Then again, Jean would never pull this.

Summary
After the battle at the Northern Water Tribe, Sokka is captured by Zhao.
It's not incredibly ideal, however, he reckoned he could escape if given the right motivation. Most of which is provided by his cellmate, Prince Zuko, the boy they've been fearing for months. The Fire Prince who has spent the last few months of Sokka's life miserable, trying to keep him, his sister and the all-powerful twelve year old boy alive. It's his rotten luck to be locked up with Zuko, he's only going to foil his plans wherever they go.
At least, that's what Sokka thought.
The thing about war is, the smoke rises so high, so thick, things aren't as clear as they once were. Sokka believed all Fire Nation was evil, that it was only capable to destroy. All he saw when he looked at the Fire Nation was the fire in their eyes. But what could possibly happen when he starts to feel the fire in the heart of one, golden-eyed boy, who is more than he appears?
Sokka's got a lot of learning to do, as does Zuko. Slowly, they're finding that as long as they're together, they might be able to take on anything.
