Summary
Regis nodded. He was no great artist, though he did enjoy a bit of sketching sometimes, preferably botanical in nature, but he could understand the sentiment of need. The need to do something, say something, have something. Need was what had driven him most of his life.
After his blood brother's life was spared at Tesham Mutna, Regis sets out to find him. His journey takes him all the way to Etolia, near Nilfgaard. There, the two settle down at an abandoned farm, where Regis hopes Dettlaff may heal. Eventually, he does, and it all begins with paint.

The bond – or where the bond was, once – aches constantly. Regis feels as if he is bleeding internally at all times. Sometimes it is a dull ache that he can ignore, and the smiles he gives to the humans as they chat with him do not feel hollow. Sometimes it is as if somebody has stuck a hot poker where his spine is meant to be. At most times he feels as he imagines humans do when they lose a limb, only he has cut this limb off himself which makes him feel both uneven and full of self-pity and guilt.

Rewrite of Blood and wine ending
The reality of the situation that Geralt had found himself in was dire. He was at his wits’ end, as the vampire Dettlaff, the Beast of Beauclair, finally made good on his threat to send his forces down upon the jewel of the Duchy. He knew that the carnage that was being wrought, at least at the moment, was a warning shot. The vampires had caused enough trouble to make the streets chaotic, but most waited in the wings. Most, meaning there were hundreds more vampires laying in wait to lay waste to the city. The ideal option should have been to take Syanna, the deposed princess to meet with Dettlaff as asked. It was surely a simple ask, one which any sane person would have agreed to, But the Duchess Anna Henrietta had made it abundantly clear that Syanna was to remain hidden, imprisoned, inaccessible, and that she had no want to ease the situation by giving her sister up.

Once Bilbo arrives in the haunted stillness of Bag End, his chest aches to realize the house does not feel like a home anymore. His books are still there, his furniture is still there (once he hunts it down and returns it, dusty and fingerprinted, to its correct place.) But still, the feeling of pervasive strangeness remains. He at first chalks it up to having been empty: to a year of disuse, to odd scents filtering their way in and settling like cobwebs in the absence of his usual routine, tea and baking and the drying of herbs. Perhaps, once he begins these things again, it will not feel so cavernous, so lonely, so strangely and painfully bare, like a tree stripped of its leaves come winter.
But weeks pass, and nothing changes. So maybe it’s not the emptiness, but the fact (which he is trying his very hardest to dutifully ignore) that he left his heart behind to crystalize in the caverns of the Lonely Mountain.
