Summary
There’s nothing quite like autumn in New York, and that year in particular was special. Harry can remember it well, the year he transferred to Midtown High after flunking out of every private school his father bothered to send him to. The year when Peter Parker, his best friend since childhood, finally became a permanent fixture in his life. It wasn’t the first day of their senior year that Harry realized this, but all the same, it was the beginning of all things that ever would matter.
Evolution doesn't necessitate the conditions for change to occur to be perfect. Only that the rudimentary components are present.

Or otherwise, what if the Green Goblin took an interest in Harry first? An AU where the change from Peter Parker to Spider-man and Norman Osborn to Green Goblin was more gradual through Harry's Perspective (and he's a little gayer, what can I say).

Orion groans but laughs, making his way closer to the edge of the rooftop. He bends lower, almost down on his knees. D-16 stares incredulously down at Orion, expectation filling his optics and frame threatening to sizzle and release hot puffs of steam with anticipation. “Okay. Listen. Alright. What if… what if—”
D-16 braces himself, a smile already crawling onto his faceplate, wind whistling in his audials.
Orion bounces back up excitedly, gesturing his servos to the screen behind him. “—tomorrow, we ran in the Iacon 5000! Huh?”
Orion Pax finds a love poem in the Archives, and D-16 misunderstands his intentions. A miscommunicated proposal ensues.
