“Mama, don’t leave!” He cried out, sobs and screams tearing through them. Enoch sat up fast, looking around. His hair was messed up, tears pouring down his face. His chest heaved up and down, and he realized he was awake.
Hiccup. Enoch’s chest heaved. “Enoch?” A careful voice to his left. He whipped around, looking at Horace, who had awakened at the disturbance, as well as some of the other children. He shook, processing the stares.
He sniffled, wiping his eyes. A small sob made its way out as more tears fell. He felt pathetic. The wide eyes of Jacob and the other peculiars got to him, and stifling another pathetic noise, he forced himself up, wobbling on weak legs.
“Enoch…” Jacob started, but it was too late. Enoch had bolted into the woods. Jacob scrambled up, shouting after him.

"He swallowed, softly rapping his knuckles on the soft pink wood of her door. He tugged his shirt down once, twice, and a third, before it swung open.
“Oh. Charlie.”
He kept his head down, trying in vain to keep his voice steady. It wouldn't work, no matter what he tried.
“You said that– that if I– it…” he swallowed. “That I could– I could come to you?” He hated how his voice lilted up at the end, how weak it had sounded, like a question. He felt himself tear up and cursed whatever he could, avoiding looking at her as much as possible.
Her voice softened a fraction, making space for him to enter.
“Yeah, yeah… of course..”
He hated how he hated how genuine she sounded."It's a bad night for Charlie, so he does the only thing he *can* do. Talk to Candace about it.

“What are you doing?” May says.
“Putting away Pete’s Legos,” Ben says, “so he doesn’t step on them in the morning.”
“How thoughtful,” she says, and sits beside him, picking up Legos, her hands and his side by side, stowing them in their tub.
Ben watches May turn a green brick over between her fingers, watches the silver moonlight shine on it like they’ve slipped into the spirit world, like they’re ghostly grave-looting, and May holds that piece of plastic like an emerald ring.
She picks up a base, a big, grey, dimpled square thing, and clicks the green block into place. Ben sees a blue one by his foot. Picks it up, clicks it beside May’s. She looks at him and he looks back. There are eons in that stare, and ripe orchards, and yellowed scrolls of lost texts.
At one in the morning the grandfather clock in the hallway chimes quietly, like tinkling bells, and they find they’ve built a home in primary colors without having shared a word on how.

The first thing to catch my attention is the orange formatting of the page. It looks familiar… but I can’t quite place it just yet. I check the top of the tab and sure enough… Rocky found Reddit.
I sigh. I had hoped that would never happen. Rocky excitedly continues, seemingly unable or unwilling to wait until I finish reading the text.
Found people discussing footage Grace sent back to earth! Talk much interesting topics, and Rocky also mentioned a lot! They say Rocky Grace know each other in the ♪♫♩♪ sense!
He almost jumps up and down in excitement.“What? How is that even- you know what never mind, need word, you used a new one there, bud.”
Oh, ♪♫♩♪, question? Is human religion, book way.
Book? Religion? What could he possibly- Oh. My. Gosh. I know what he means by that!
“Rocky do you mean in the biblical sense?!” My voice is high, almost indistinguishable from a shriek.
Or Rocky finds a subreddit of users discussing the nature of Grace and Rocky‘s relationship after the beetles return to earth and has quite a few questions.
