“I’m sorry.”
The words came out choked and she didn’t know what she had intended to follow them so any other words that might have been said died on her tongue. It was startlingly close to what she had said last time, though the meaning behind the words couldn’t be more different. Unfortunately, she knew immediately that though she felt completely changed on the inside, they came out in a remarkably similar tone to the last time as well.
She saw Elphaba’s eyes harden slightly and knew they had been received in the same way. Sorry you are like this. Sorry you’ve had to deal with being such a freak.
Galinda longed to let the rest of her words spill out into the open to try and make her understand.
I’m sorry I failed you. I’m sorry I didn’t see you immediately last time. I’m sorry I didn’t go with you when you asked. I’m sorry I never told you how loved you are.

This can’t be happening, Elphaba thinks, as she hears the gun discharge, the sharp crack cutting through the air like a knife. It’s a beautiful day, an unfairly beautiful day for violence. It's already been a terrible day too, and she never thought it could any worse. But Elphaba knows, deep in her heart, what is going to happen. There's no time to prevent it, even if her mind was thinking fast enough. Fiyero is too close. His aim is steady. His time in the Gale Force has taught him to be a weapon against the Wizard’s enemies. But he has never been a killer. Not until today, when he’s stressed from trying to figure out how to keep them all safe and his palms are sweaty and his finger slips.
The bullet launches itself from the barrel of his gun, embedding itself in Glinda's chest.
Or: while trying to protect Elphaba, Fiyero accidentally pulls the trigger. As they flee to Kiamo Ko with an injured Glinda in tow, Elphaba and Fiyero have to find a way to heal her and protect her from her enemies. And in the process, they need to set the record straight on a few things.

Glinda shook her head and tried to call out for Milla, a guard, anyone really– hadn’t they heard her fall? Although that is her fault for having so few people around the palace anyway. As Glinda opened her mouth, the noise that came out was more of a bleat. Glinda furrowed her brows in confusion, but sure enough, opening her mouth once again, another bleat. As a matter of fact, now that Glinda had a much better awareness of her bearings, she noted the dress she’d been wearing was a pile on the floor. She couldn’t be nude, no, she didn’t feel chilled. And in fact, she was much shorter than she should be. Glinda knew she was on the shorter side for Gillikinese, but she was certain she used to be able to reach the shelves.
As she moved to step out of the pile that was her dress, Glinda noted the hooves that occupied the space her feet should. Her legs were wobbling as she took a few shaky steps toward the mirror in the corner of the room. Peaking into the mirror confirmed– sure enough– Glinda was no longer human. She was now instead a deer.
