“Should call you the Ottawa Puppies,” says the Toronto centre, Svensson. As an insult it makes no sense, so Ilya ignores it, until he continues, “Hear Hollander keeps you on a short leash.”
Ilya is the captain, so if anything, he should be holding the leash. In English, you can be singular or plural, but he knows what Svensson is trying to say. He is saying Ilya Rozanov, you are Hollander’s bitch.
“Only sometimes,” Ilya replies, grinning. He wins the face off.
OR: Ilya trains himself to be a very, very good guard dog for Shane.

Summary
Ilya in 2014 had no idea his time with Hollander was so limited — something that Ilya in 2016 knows all too well.
Ilya in 2016 is also playing hockey like shit. The version of himself on the television misses an easy shot, and the commentators tear him apart for it. Ilya, watching from his bed, is inclined to agree with them. His father’s decline is almost a blessing this month, when his usual level of vitriol would be for once so entirely deserved.
He’s thinking about all of this, beer in hand, when there’s a knock on his door.

The door to his office opens mid-stream, dragging his attention away from the bedwars match he's participating in. Techno had joined him when he was playing GeoGuessr, and badgered him until he'd caved and agreed to switch to Minecraft.
"No." He says immediately, pointing at Tommy and narrowing his eyes. Tommy grins, malicious and sharp. "Oi, don't you fucking dare." Wilbur hisses, standing from his chair and taking a step back. He knows he's powerless to stop the teen, and he will be tackled, but he'd rather not have his chair broken in the process. Tommy's grin widens.
"Wilbur?" Techno calls, voice tinged ever so slightly with concern. He doesn't get a chance to answer, as Tommy rams into him and sends them both to the ground.

Or; Tommy enjoys tackling Wilbur, and Wilbur just likes being able to hug the gremlin, even for the price of a few bruised ribs.

Summary

And the only ones that can stop it are Wilbur Soot—the youngest lieutenant in police history and now a drunk, washed out detective—and an android of the 1NN1T model named Tommy, an advanced prototype created to solve crimes and catch rogue androids. But first they actually have to get along.
